Acer 10.1" Computer
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this computer back in Feb 2010 and it has worked over and above my expectations. I got it so I could take it with me on trips and not have to bogged down with a larger Laptop. It does everything I want to and connections to the internet are flawless. I would say to anyone who is looking to get something a little more smaller than a larger unit get this one and you wont be disappointed.. I upgraded to the full version of windows 7 Home Premium without a problem.. I also added the 2gigs of memory it recognized it without so much as a hiccup..

Failed since the first boot...
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
When I first turned on this netbook, I got a black screen and the boot process never finished. I tried several times and got 2 satisfactory, but sloooooow, start ups only. I took it to an authorised tech support in Colombia and they found out that the bios was outdated and the mainboard was faulty.

Aside of that, the systems is preloaded with too much useless stuff. If a netbook is intended to be a light PC, why does Acer insist on fill Win7 Starter with an endless list of accessories and proprietary applications. These are not even to be used on the net!

My best choice was to format everything and install a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Edition. Priceless decision!

Acer Netbook
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love my Acer netbook. It is exactly what I wanted and met all my expectations. I added memory without any glitches and I am not tech savy. I have found no negatives and look forward to taking it with me to Europe this summer.

Travels well
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this netbook for a trip across the country. It travels well, is lightweight, has a good screen resolution, and surfs the internet quickly. The USB ports are great for accessories and for importing or exporting files. Love the red cover!

A few glitches, but a good buy
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I had a Dell netbook, but made the mistake of convincing my husband he would like it for travel. Now I can't get it back so I had to buy another one. I like this machine because it has a much better touch pad than our Dell netbook. It also does not have some of the keyboard idiosyncracies I found with my Dell.

The down side of this unit is that the USB ports don't seem to be quite right. I can make them work, but you have to work a little bit to plug/unplug a USB cable. It's nothing that stops me from using it, just a little annoying.

The thing that convinced me to buy this Acer instead of another Dell was that it is preloaded with Windows 7. Unfortunately, I did not realize before purchasing that it is only the starter edition of Windows 7, so you don't get all the features. If I want to pay to upgrade, I can, but that seems a little ridiculous. I paid for an operating system, not a PARTIAL operating system.

Be forewarned that if you are loading a prior version of Outlook onto Windows7, there is a known issue with email passwords. No fix as of yet.

Overall, I recommend this machine, as the only real problems I've had are related to software, not the netbook.

Excellent for the price, except for technical support!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a marvelous little machine to take on the road: fast, small, light and long lasting. To get the most out of it, follow the advices posted here, i.e. upgrade the RAM to 2 GB (Use Crucial web site to get the correct RAM module number (it must be the PC6400 800 MHz one, otherwise it might not work). Mine came with Windows 7 starter, which you might want to upgrade to a higher version. I upgraded mine to Windows 7 Enterprise (from work) which is similar to Windows 7 Ultimate. You might want to update the BIOS as well.

I removed most software it came with since they are bloatware. Load my own software on it, and it handles those with no problem.

The only issue (well, make that two) I had with it is the wireless connection. First issue: mine only connects to to open, non-secure networks; as soon as I try to connect it to my home network, which is not-broadcast, WPA2 Personal-AES, 802.11n-only network, it failed immediately. Updating to the latest Wireless adapter driver from Acer web site (version 8.0.0.259) did not help. Took me 2 days to locate a better driver from the manufacturer, installed it and it fixed the problem right away. So if you have this problem, and yours come with the Atheros AR5B95 -based chipset, look for driver version 8.0.0.279.

Which brings me to the second complaint: customer service. Those people are a bunch of moronic idiots who jobs are to compare your complaints with a set of standard samples, then copy and paste scripts into their replies. Why? In my E-mail, I stated "...has updated the driver to the latest 8.0.0.259 from Acer Support Web site..." and I got this answer (within 15 minutes):

"You may follow the link and update the wireless driver to resolve the issue.
[...]

just because my subject line was "Wireless: Can't connect"!!! And there is no way I can escalate my issue to the next level.

The next E-mail reply from them is even more idiotic ("Please run Windows in Safe mode and try your wireless connection"!!!) and nothing after that. If you are someone who relies on manufacturer support, you might consider choosing something else. I also just happen to live 10 minutes drive from their US headquarter, so at least I can drop by and complain to them (which was my plan if I could not get the wireless to work).

So: The netbook is 5 stars, but the tech support is -5 stars.

Huge Regrets
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
If you are in the market for this type of device, do not purchase an ACER.

Simply put, it will not work well and no one will care.

Cost effective powerhouse
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I would have given 5 stars if I had the 2g ram running. As far as using it it's used for what I use it for; simply updating my email accnts and syncing my phone with outlook.
I use this for business mostly, utilizing office. This is a powerhouse as a utility! I love it! It is a smooth operation with very little if any hesitance running programs. I plug in my smartphone and sync on the fly, wireless setup is a breeze and buttons on the key pad aren't too bad. I have small hands so I naturally fit well with this little guy!

The sleep feature is great. the hibernate feature is awesome, and startup time is very acceptable at approx. 39 sec! Battery life is a solid 8hrs. For this thing to do all that on a atom processor, I will never complain.

Gaming- no comment; don't play.
Graphic artistry/complex resource programs- Don't. I run a mediocre video editing software and it almost doesn't like that although, it functions flawlessly.

I was really happy with this purchase and I recommend it to anyone that is in sales or office work that is always on the run.
