hard drive, fan, AND motherboard went within 7 months!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This is the worst computer I have ever owned. The hard drive, fan, AND motherboard went within 7 months of my purchasing it. I sent it back to Acer (at my expense) they “fixed it” and sent it back several weeks later. It worked for literally 15 minutes and then crashed again- wouldn’t even turn on. It was finally fixed after the second trip back to Acer- but now for some reason the touchpad- which was always really bad- is even worse than ever. It skips, sticks, won’t scroll properly, and makes the text suddenly larger or smaller for no reason. If the cursor is accidentally moved too slowly over an add or link it automatically goes there without even clicking the touchpad! Do not buy this computer- the only thing good about it is it’s small portable size. It is obviously cheap for a very good reason. Save yourself a giant headache and spend a little more money to get a better computer.
just a keyboard issue

Lousy customer service for a short on the motherboard

This is a fun little netbook. It worked directly out of the box and continues to be fine. It didn’t take long to notice, though, that it has a power drain, though. After completely charging the battery, the battery discharges about 20% per day, but only when attached to the netbook. (The battery holds its charge just fine when detached from the netbook.) The first time I shipped it to customer service, they updated the BIOS, replaced the battery, and sent it back to me after it passed their standard diagnostics. Nevertheless, the problem persisted. They have no test for power drains on the motherboard, and, even though I requested it, didn’t bother to investigate. Googling reveals this to be a fairly common problem with this netbook. The second time I sent it in I argued for an hour with customer service—with eventual success—to get the motherboard replaced. Upon sending it back to me a second time, they said they replaced the motherboard, but the wireless MAC address remains the same and the problem still hadn’t been resolved. It is unclear to me whether in fact they did replace the motherboard. (It still passes the standard diagnostics.)
Needless to say, customer service is horribly unresponsive. I cannot use this netbook without having it plugged in. There is nothing I can do about it, and that’s what I’m stuck with.
Stay away from Acer.
Great!

After a couple first generation EEE PCs that soon showed how cheap they really are, and an Acer a150 (8.9″ model) that died after 4 months, I found myself netbook shopping once again. I was NOT going to get another acer. But after looking at all of them, trying them out whenever possible, the acers were the only ones I was compatible with. That 8.9″ acer was a great little computer until it didn’t turn on one day. I could have sent it back for repair, but got lazy and let the warranty run out. I bought this particular model because it had XP. I’m sure Windows 7 is lovely, but I really like XP.
This computer has been awesome! So light, and very thin. The bigger (than the 8.9″) screen makes a huge difference, I didn’t realize it would. I often forget that I am using a netbook. I don’t see why people keep saying netbooks are slow and underpowered. I have no problems, programs open quickly, music is smooth, internet is fast (especially after I switched from IE to google chrome). Although, streamed videos are slightly choppy at times, but I can deal with that, I don’t stream much anyway.
I highly recommend this to anyone.
This is the difference between ACER and a real brand.

Bought this netbook and had hard drive issues within a month. Paid 50 bucks to ship it to get fixed by acer. 1 month later my lcd connection is bad and flickers constantly. Acer refuses to cover the shipping. Do not buy anything from ACER. Pay a little extra and get a Dell or HP netbook and save yourself the trouble. ZERO STARS
Great little netbook

My teenage daughter has been running this for the past 6 months. Great little netbook. The wireless range is truly amazing, about 3x my Dell laptop to an 802.11 b/g WAP. She’s using it for homework but really for her it’s a multimedia gadget for social networking, playing music, Youtube videos, online games, etc. Surprisingly, she has not killed it yet. So I give it high marks for ruggedness, software robustness, and usability.
