Great Laptop!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Before this, I had a IBM ThinkPad running XP. It was slow and I couldn’t do much with it. Then I switched over to Mac. Mac OS X is the best operating system out there. It’s easy to use, but it’s so powerful. My MacBook has beautiful design and is well thought out. My only complaints are that it costs quite a bit and it gets hotter when in use than my IBM did. iThink–ahem, I think, that iLife is a great software suite. I got iWork too, which runs well on it. I bought Colin McRae Rally Mac and it runs admirably on the Mac, besides about a second of lag every 15 minutes.
The processor is blazing fast, but I hope Apple will upgrade all their computers to i3, i5, and i7 Intel processors. The Nvidia graphics are wonderful. And the screen? Well, the screen is incredibly bright. The colors are vivid and bright. I would highly recommend getting a MacBook.
Excellent experince

Apple MacBook Rules!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love the MacBook! You’re instantly greeted by glorious full screen brightness. The LED-backlit display is power efficient. And it’s mercury and arsenic free. I like the smaller, lighter frame, compared to any PC. Measuring a mere 1.08 inches thin and weighing in at only 5.0 pounds. It also offers a unique keyboard design that sits flush against the bed for a sleeker, lower profile. Other standard Apple “extras” includes a built-in iSight video camera. Stylishly and intelligently designed, the MacBook has everything I am looking for: affordability, innovation, powerful computing. My MacBook has a 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with a 160 GB hard drive, plenty of room for music, photos, videos, and more. Hardware features include a built-in Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), two USB ports, FireWire, and Mini-DVI video output. Apple has an updated model (10/09) with a 250 GB hard drive. I do not need the extra memory, amazingly, the newer model, does not have a FireWire port.
I like Apple’s magnetically connected MagSafe power adapter. This feature offers a magnetic connection instead of a physical one. If you to trip over a power cord, you won’t send MacBook flying off a table or desk, the cord simply disconnects, without damage to either the cord or the system. The adapter is easy to connect and disconnect without having to struggle with the connector. Opening and closing your MacBook is also a pleasure, thanks to a magnetic latch, there are no moving parts to snag, jam, or break. Again, I do not have to struggle with some PC toggle switch to open my MAC.
The 160 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) high speed transfer of data, akin to FireWire and USB 2.0. The 2 GB of DDR2 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 512 MB) have an 800 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to 4 GB. The 13.3 inch glossy widescreen display, excellent video processing power from the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics chip, and an integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi LAN, provides compatibility with older 802.11b/g routers. It includes an 8x combo Superdrive for burning dual-layer DVDs as well as CDs. It comes pre-loaded with Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system, the iLife ‘09 suite of applications, including iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, and iTunes.
Battery lasts between 5 and 6 hours. The hafnium-infused circuitry–which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors conserves even more energy, giving you more time away from the wall outlet. Apple has worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of computer manufacturing. Apple engineers removed the majority of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, in the MacBook.
Because Apple makes both the hardware and the software for the MacBook, they’re designed to work together to produce a smarter product that uses less electricity. The MacBook hard drive spins down automatically when inactive. The MacBook also decides which processor CPU or GPU is best suited to efficiently perform a task. The processor even throttles down to save power between keystrokes as you type. Together, these adjustments make the MacBook much more energy efficient and result in fewer CO2 emissions.
Made in America by Americans. I have gone through four different PCs using Microsoft operating systems in four years. Microsoft makes a bad product, cheaply and poorly designed made in Asia. The Asian hard drives constantly failed and crashed. Programs were slow to load and constantly crashed. The MAC is fanatstic. The superior Apple product is well designed, efficient and dependable. The Apple MacBook MC240LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop is the best that I have owned! I thoroughly endorse and recommend Apple products to anyone.
Be aware of defective LCD
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
A lot of this model have defective Samsung LCD panel in it.
[...]
I got one. And it is such a hassle to have Apple to repair or replace it for you.
I already tried to repair twice, every time they return still defective. And they won’t replace it for me. Horrible customer service and quality control.
Horrible. Stay away. I know this is already the last generation, but still, stay as far away from this computer as possible.
poor hardware
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We purchased a bulk of this item for the teachers in our school. The software is excellent but we are very disappointed with the hardware. Before our units reached 1 year, most of us brought them to the service center already. most had chipped off parts. some had problem with hard disks. the unit was covered for the first year but considering how easily it gets damaged, i think it won’t take long ’til we need to spend more for this unit. Please get the new mac book instead and don’t settle for this unit. you will regret it!
Just what the doctor ordered!

Buy a keyboard cover
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I had this computer for only 2 months. A cup of water got spilled into the keyboard, thus destroying the logic (mother) board. Apple offered to fix it for $800- thanks, but no thanks. I called Apple because I still need a new laptop. They suggested I buy a keyboard cover next time- perhaps that would have saved it.
While I had it, it was a nice computer, but I had some issues with migration- moving my data from my older laptop to this one. The time got messed up- it wanted to stay on GMT. I called Apple and they figured out that a folder with local time or something had to be trashed to fix the problem. It took some time, but trashing the folder they told me to trash fixed the problem. So if you’re migrating information, call Apple if your date/time doesn’t set properly.
My main reason for writing this review is not to say what a great computer this is. In fact, the newer one is out with more RAM (3Gb) and more HD storage (250 Gb), for the same price that I bought this one 3 months ago. I love Macs in general- mainly the fact that you don’t have to worry about viruses- the hackers don’t seem to be able to get into the OS system- and I think Macs are easier to use- more intuitive than PCs. But my reason for writing is to help someone avoid the problem I had and to encourage them to buy a keyboard cover. The logic board sits just beneath the keyboard and water is “a kiss of death” to the computer, as my computer expert friend likes to say.
Apple does not currently offer damage protection, so if you spill water on it, you may very well have to replace it. Perhaps the keyboard cover will protect it. I certainly plan to buy one for my next computer.
New Model Available

Although the white macbook is a great machine, be advised that this is the older model. Apple released an updated model on 10/20/09 with upgraded features for $999. You may want to check it out on the Apple website before you purchase. However this older model is still a great machine and if you are looking to save $100 this is still a good deal.
Best Computer I’ve ever owned.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
In the month since purchasing my macbook it has become my bestfriend. Surprisingly it’s quite dirt resistant considering it being completely white. If you tend to use your computer away from home a lot I’d recommend a sleeve or keyboard protector. The colors are amazing & the speed is impeccable! But, what else is there to expect from a mac?
Fast and furios
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My 11 year old bought this computer and here is what he thinks about it:
This computer is really fast and its worth all the money for all the things it does, I like it a lot.
I like this computer for its design, the magsafe power adapter and the keyboard design.
I also like its colors and the beautiful graphics.
I really recommend this computer. Its better than the xp windows vista and windows 7. Windows programs are not so good and don’t function as well, they function but
not as well as a Mac.
If Your going to buy a windows computer don’t even think twice D-O-N-T, in my opinion I don’t like windows.
BUY A MAC.
The best

The whole buying process was easy. A new Apple laptop with a free iPod Touch with free shipping and no sales tax for $999. Beats any education discount because of the savings on sales tax of almost $100. Came in about 4 days, setup took minutes. The newest of 5 laptops for my college kids.
3 years later, going strong
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Most reviews, strangely enough, are written within a week or 2 after something is purchased. This is a problem when it comes to laptops, which need to prove sound over time.
I bought my white macbook 3 years ago. I’ve probably used it, on average, for 5 hours a day. I carry it with me all over the place, on planes, on my bike, and I’ve used it to DJ at dance parties (no spills, thankfully).
This is a really great and very sturdy laptop. There have been a few problems. Because of the way the top of the casing is designed, the edges near where your palms rest have broken slightly. And there is a tiny bit of roughage on the screen where it closes, but I only notice if I look really hard.
Other than that, smooth sailing and much happy use. I’ve never had a virus, never had to bring it in for repairs, and no real problems.
amazing mac

Macbook providing me thrilling experience, way different from PC. Everything is excellent so far. Amazon did a wonderful job in delivering this product on time.
Now I’ve gone Mac, I’ll never go back
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I used Macs all through college, but then I entered the work force and had to learn and use PCs. In my current job, I was provided with a PC laptop, but I was so frustrated with it that I bought a Mac with my own money in December and haven’t looked back since. I even got an iMac for my office (you know, so that I’m not supplying my workplace with a computer at my expense). I travel a lot for my job, which makes me love my Mac for several reasons. First, my Macbook is LIGHT. I was previously lugging around an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad, which got extremely heavy when walking around airports for hours on end. I travel overseas for work, and the Thinkpad was not only cumbersome to carry to a place where I might have internet access, I was lucky if it worked when I needed it to. Email became a nightmare. Getting it to hook up to wireless internet, or any internet for that matter, was a crap shoot. And then the crashing. And crashing. And crashing. Only a few months after I got my IBM, it was crashing so much that I was having to reboot several times a day. Not fun when you’re overseas in the field, with no IT department to help you.
And then came my Mac. It’s pretty, it’s intuitive, it has features and software that make my husband’s PC look like a donkey with pots clanging around on it. It doesn’t crash. Setting up email was a snap–not a several-day ordeal as with my IBM (that’s right–switching email from PC to Mac was easier than PC to PC). I’ve traveled with it several times, and haven’t had any problems. It did what I needed it to, when I needed it to.
It took some getting used to, but Apple’s site has some great tutorials on switching from PC to Mac.
I’m still exploring and figuring out some features, but I’m always pleasantly surprised. My only complaint is with the Finder. I find it difficult to organize and locate my files, but I figure it will just take some time to get used to the new system. For example, I want to find a document, say with the word “Costumes” in it. I type “Costumes” into the finder, and it pulls every email I’ve ever written that contains that word, which could be hundreds, and I need to find my one costume document out of that mess. But this is probably user error. Even with that, I’m still extremely happy with my Mac.
My mom and her husband are constantly grumbling about their PC and use me as their personal IT person. Neither of them are particularly tech savvy, and I think a Mac would be perfect for them. With a PC, you really need to understand how the machine works in order to troubleshoot. With a Mac, you don’t have a lot to troubleshoot, and everything is so intuitive. You don’t have to “look under the hood” all the time.
Faulty Hardware
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I bought my macbook Jan ‘08 (around 18 months ago)… i have to admit i love OS X. But a couple of months ago my macbook just wouldn’t come on. I took it to the service center. To cut a long story short they said that there was in the logic board and it had to be replaced. The cost was $[...]. I was completely upset with this. I went online and saw that many people had similar hardware problems with the macbook. It was really upsetting to have a laptop completely useless 15 months into buying it. And also more upsetting that apple would charge such a premium almost equal to the cost of the laptop for the motherboard. It shouldn’t cost that much.
Unfortunately, even though apple has a great operating system the reliability of the hardware is another story

Excellent Laptop, does have drawbacks though
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I am in love with my laptop. I love the highly intuitive nature of a mac. I never have to troubleshoot with a mac, the way i had to on a daily basis with a pc laptop. Each new laptop that comes out is faster and more fully loaded than the last. Each new laptop the comes out also seeks to correct some issues that the previous model had.
This particular model has an issue with heat. The computer gets so hot it will burn your legs if you actually use it on your lap. The excessive heat also causes hairline fractures in the encasement around the fan in the back. After the fractures have shown up, dirt is attracted, and then you have dirty looking cracks all over the back of your computer. The most annoying problem with this model is the encasement cracking and breaking off from the wrist resting area, leaving an exposed rough and sharp edge. It is difficult to get apple to replace this, as it is not a default, but wear and tear according to them. Its been a major issue among users of this model. I suggest getting a skin to protect the area, I use Moshi PalmGuard Macbook 13-inch Unibody and 13-inch Pro Palmrest Protector – Silver and it has prevented my palm area from cracking this time around for over a year now.
Overall this machine is an excellent product. Once you go Mac, you wont go back.
Have two: one is great, one is dying!

Had I written this review, say a half-year ago, I would have undoubtedly given the Macbook 5 stars. I took it with me to college after my previous laptop – an Acer Aspire – failed me horribly. My Aspire had an issue with overheating, which only presented itself after my warranty expired. The cost of repairing it was not worth it when compared to getting a new laptop that was smaller, lighter, more powerful, and more capable of multi-tasking (more RAM).
I come from a family that has been using Macs for over a decade, although I myself preferred Windows computers…up until Windows Vista came out. We had many Macs around the house growing up since my parents use Macs in their office, and I was never really impressed with the Apple Operating System, so I had doubts about the Macbook. But since the Macbook is loaded with 2GB RAM and an Intel processor, you can run BOTH Mac AND Windows operating systems with ease. I therefore figured worse comes to worst, I’ll use my Macbook as a laptop to run Windows XP with. I used it very heavily in college and it served me very well. It’s light weight allowed me to easily carry it from class to class, its included photo and video editing software gave me hours of productivity, and perhaps best of all, it was reliable! I really loved my Macbook and would like to give it 5 stars…but…
My sister, who was in graduate school, also got a Macbook at the same time I got mine. Her laptop fared well, up until the end of last year. For some reason, the laptop started getting buggy…it’d freeze, it would overheat, it became a major nuisance. We’ve reformatted several times, hoping that would solve the problems, but to no avail. I HIGHLY recommend getting the AppleCare protection plan. We regrettably didn’t, and really don’t feel like forking over the money to repair the Macbook since she doesn’t use it much anymore anyway. But our attempt to save money by not getting the protection plan will end up costing us more money now, should we choose to repair the laptop! The experience with our second, identical Macbook, is why I have to give 3 stars instead of 5 for an otherwise strong performance product, that can run both Windows and Mac, that comes bundled with a lot of great software, and that looks really cool (especially on a college campus where almost everyone has Macs!)
A last note…I have more recently purchased the sleeker Macbook, and would like to emphasize that while its construction is nicer, and it doesn’t look as cheap as this plastic one, I still think this is a good deal. If you’re looking to “wow” people and can splurge, get the newer model, but if you are looking for a powerful laptop and don’t care too much about having the latest build, this one is just fine. I still use my plastic one even though I have the newer (cooler-looking!) one.
good for people who travel, good first Macintosh
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Just got one of these and love it. Small enough that it’s easy to travel with, but large enough that it’s easy to use as your main computer, if you like working on a laptop.
This thing is fast and the new operating system is solid. Love the automatic backup, which has saved me a couple of times. There is also a great selection of open source software available, so you can outfit this thing pretty much for free.
If you’re not a Mac person, this is a good entry level Mac. If you’ve got a desktop and want something to take with you, this is a good entry level laptop. Goes way beyond what most entry level machines can do though.
Love this computer.
MacBook
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My wife purchased this great machine for me and I’m a happy camper. It is as fast wireless as hard wired and small enough to carry anywhere but big enough to still be used in comfort. Good-bye PC machines.
I can and will recommend an Apple MacBook for all the reasons all Apple users state. Be a friend to the environment and buy an Apple
Least expensive MacBook, but go Pro
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is Apple’s least expensive notebook, but I believe the 2009 13-inch MacBook Pro is worth the higher price for the following reasons:
- it’s a little faster
- it’s a little lighter
- the aluminum finish is more durable
- the all metal body should dissipate heat better
- trackpad is larger and fingers glide easy over its glass surface
- multi-touch gestures make it easier to navigate
- LED-backlit display has better color and wider viewing angle
- keyboard lights up at night
- expands up to 8GB of memory (useful for the future)
- longer battery life
- the matte aluminum finish with black keys is beautiful
For me, these features justify the extra cost, which is why I purchased the Pro — others might not feel they are important. I am writing this review mostly so people thinking about the white MacBook at least consider the Pro version before making their final purchase.
Note, the 13-inch MacBook Pro has two versions. I got the least expensive which has a slightly lower processor speed, smaller disk and just 2GB of RAM. The processor speed of the more expensive model is not significantly faster and the disk and memory can be upgraded later when prices drop (I eventually will get a solid-state drive and 8GB).
In late October 2009, Apple updated this notebook with the same large trackpad as the MacBook Pros. This new revision also has a faster processor and larger hard disk. I still like the aluminum body of the MacBook Pro (and the Firewire port can be useful), but most of the objections I had with the old MacBook do not exist on the current model.
Very Happy
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I picked up the white Macbook about 7 months ago and have been very happy with the purchase. This is my first Apple laptop and my second Mac all together. The 13 inch screen is perfect for my needs. A netbook is too small, and the bigger ones are too big to haul around (for my needs, anyway). I mainly use the machine for typical office use (OpenOffice, web surfing, etc…) and it’s been great. I’ve also looked into a little bit of development with it, and it performed those tasks admirably (although I’d like a bigger screen if I get serious with it). The only draw back is the small hard drive. I have to keep pretty much all of my media (photos, music) on my other machine, but it doesn’t really hinder me too much. Granted this laptop is more expensive than a comparatively equipped XP laptop, but I’ve more than made up for it in that I don’t have to spend time maintaining the OS and the fact that the Mac still boots up in less than 2 minutes, while my XP laptop takes at least 5 minutes before it’s usable after startup (and no, I don’t have a bunch of startup items and garbage starting on boot on either machine).
