One of the best notebook computers on the market Rating:5 out of 5 stars It does not feel cheap, and it is very FAST. This is a speedy computer in many ways. I run everything from iWork, iLife, Windows with Parallels, Microsoft Office, Oracle Database, FileMaker, Photoshop, Xcode, Visual Studio, etc. If you want a real computer (by the way, Mac OS X is a Unix operating system), this is the one.
BEWARE – Sharp corners, bad hand position ruined this purchase Rating:2 out of 5 stars I decided it was time to replace my 4 year old Macbook Pro 15″ for a snazzy new unibody 15″ Macbook Pro.
Spent alot of time at the Apple store checking them out (ultimately a bad environment for this!) before I decided on a new 15″ – then ordered it from Amazon.
Of all things I never thought it would be the design of an Apple that would make me return it.
Once i got it home and started using it I noticed that the lower top front aluminum edges of the keyboard part of the machine where you rest your hands are pretty sharp and have no give – feels like a hardened machined car part. It wasnt long before i noticed my lower palm start to hurt like i was pressing against a dull knife. Full disclosure – i have big hands (not huge) so the positioning just didnt work for me, though others may have no problem with it.
In addition I asked my wife to try it just to make sure i wasnt making too much of it. When she went to put her hands down operate the track pad she was lightly stabbed (no blood or anything) on the small corners of the indent where you lift the lid. Its that sharp!!!
Add to that the glossy screen which REALLY REFLECTS outside lighting/shadows and I new it I couldn’t keep it (not for $1800 purchase price!!!)
Its a real bummer as all the new Apple models except the low end white one have the same issues – Im not a PC guy anymore so Im not sure what I’m going to buy now. Hackintosh anyone???
Best Money I’ve Spent in awhile. Rating:5 out of 5 stars I love this laptop, it is my first laptop and mac. I was going back and fourth between waiting for the new macbook pro with the new i3,5, or 7 chips or just buying this one. I got tired of the release date rumors and really needed a laptop so I decided to get this one. I love it! Trackpad is brilliant once you actually figure out all the finger movements. Great Screen display and smooth feeling keyboard. I would recommend to anybody wanting a nice and easy to use laptop.
Apple has done it again Rating:5 out of 5 stars This is my second laptop from apple and I love it.
To be clear, I have the 2.66 15 inch model with an ANTI-Glare screen.
Case and Keyboard-
Pros: Apple really did a great job designing this laptop. The black keys are beautiful and match the rest of the laptop. The case looks and even feels great. The Anti glare screen is the same color as the rest of the laptop (Aluminum) but there is a beautiful black trim around it. When closing the laptop magnets keep the screen firmly closed, a really nice touch.
Cons: The only really con I can think of is the placement of the USB and Firewire ports. They are all on the same side which becomes very cluttered when having multiple connections. Personally, I constantly have every port used so this is somewhat of a problem. The positives definitely outweigh this small negative.
Anti Glare Screen-
Pros: Does it’s job, no reflection and still works great.
Cons: Nothing, its only $50 for the upgrade, do it.
Performance-
Pros: I am a video editor and this thing flies whether you are using final cut pro or avid.
Cons: None
Trackpad-
Pros: This trackpad is really fun. Apple really has the best technology when it comes touch surfaces. Expose feature works great and the pad is fully customizable with 3rd party software.
Cons: Sure, its great that you can push down anywhere on the pad, but it takes some effort to do this.
Operating System-
Pros: Most agree that Mac OsX is the strongest operating system out there. But if you prefer to use both, bootcamp works FLAWLESSLY. (other than having your typical windows problems)
Cons: This is obviously a very subjective area. Some might say the lack of program integration is a negative, but bootcamp solves that. Some might say apple doesn’t many programs, but search the web for a couple minutes and you’ll find otherwise. So I can honestly say the OS has no significant cons.
Customer Service-
Pros: Apple has the best customer service in the world. As long as you are nice to them they will take care of you. I would highly recommend the 3 year warranty because like anything, things break.
Cons: Very expensive to have things fixed (by apple) without the warranty. You wouldn’t drive a car without insurance, just buy the warranty.
Overall: Incredible laptop, incredible performance, you will not be disappointed.
Very good but not quite great Rating:4 out of 5 stars A bit over priced the screen and keyboard are great Would be better if it had more RAM and it has gotten very slow and I have only used 50GB of the 250GB HD space. The lap top gets very hot when on your lap and tends to overheat so I as I did I suggest you get an application where you can control the fan speed which helps. Operating system is very good.
Gorgeous laptop! Rating:5 out of 5 stars This is amazing laptop! Gorgeous display, extremely useful trackpad, powerful CPU, lots of RAM, very solid feel (because of unibody aluminum frame).
I was afraid that there would be lots of glare on this glossy glass screen, but it turned out that you don’t see any glares if you use laptop indoors and we use it indoors only. Also it is so nice and easy to wipe this glass screen!
We really liked software which comes out of the box. Mac OS X Snow Leopard is so quick and so handy! And iLife 09 is just brilliant. We really liked the way iPhoto recognizes faces and with this feature we sorted out all our photo collection – thats awesome!
This laptop is great for home, but it is as well great for work. We installed Adobe CS3 suite (I just don’t have CS4 yet) and iWork 09. These things work really well!
We bought this model because we need reasonably large screen and high performance to work with Adobe Flash/In Design and so on, but at the same time we wished laptop to be rather lightweight. This model fits our expectations really well.
And we didn’t choose 15″ with better graphic chip, because we don’t play games.
One drop of liquid = potential disaster Rating:1 out of 5 stars Maybe even less than a drop. I splashed a drop of tea on the trackpad. I quickly dabbed it up with a cotton rag. I thought I got it all, but when I tried to use it I noticed it was still a bit damp. I wiped up the residue and at this point (or maybe when I tried using it with my fingers) an invisibly small amount of liquid got into contact with the crack at the edge of the trackpad and seeped inside by capillary action. Since then the trackpad no longer has any effect on software when it clicks. It’s still under warranty. I haven’t brought it in to the ‘Genius Bar’ yet; but the warranty expressly denies coverage for water damage. If I end up getting charged for repairs (hundreds of dollars according to my research, thanks to the difficult of reaching the trackpad with the new models’ ‘unibody construction’) this review will remain. If they pay for it, I will come back and edit my review accordingly. I’ll keep you posted.
Great Machine with a few exceptions Rating:4 out of 5 stars The Unibody is really cool and the construction and feel of this machine are unrivaled. A few of the things I don’t quite like are the fact that iMovie doesn’t let you import raw AVCHD files from an external drive. It has to be from the camcorder…phssst whats up with that? And one other sort of lame thing is the mini display port means your existing hdmi or dvi cables will need yet another accessory to connect. But it could be seen as a good thing because the form factor of the port is small and allows for a flexible connection.
Screen is bright, but if you don’t like glare get the anti glare coating…
Mac pro camera Rating:5 out of 5 stars My Mac pro is great change from my windows PC.. a downside is camera not usable on the MSN messenger.. but works great with Skype for viewing family and friends… also Mac Pro not come with Apple versions of word and excel….
LOVE IT! Rating:5 out of 5 stars I’m so glad I switched to a Mac. I’ve only had it a couple of months and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s considering purchasing a laptop. It’s a bit more expensive than a comparable laptop running on windows but it’s worth every cent!
15 Inch MacBook Pro Compared Rating:5 out of 5 stars I had a MacBook Pro 13 inch, have owned and liked both the 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pros. I sold the 15 inch machine, because I carry a machine around with me all day long and the smaller 13 inch was a better fit in my backpack and it weighed less. The 17 inch MacBook Pro I used as a desktop and it worked well for me, but I needed more screen real estate, so I bought a Mac Mini and hooked up two older 23 inch Apple cinema displays. So I thought I was good to go, but sadly, a dirty, rotten, no good, son of a you-know-what, swiped my backpack and gone was my trusty MacBook Pro. I had lots of stuff on there that I couldn’t afford to lose, but fortunately I’m a crazy nut about backing up. Still, the loss of the machine hurt.
So, now I own a new MacBook, have had it for a couple weeks now, so I believe, having owned all of Apple’s current MacBooks and the MacBook Pro, that I’m qualified to comment on and compare them here.
First off, let me admit, I’m not a fan of the glare on Apple’s new machines. I spend a lot of time staring at a computer screen and that bright light staring back at me gives me headaches, plus the reflection is distracting. That’s why I bought the 17 inch Macbook Pro with a non reflective screen. In many ways it was a dream machine. Fast with a 2.8GHZ processor and 4GB of ram, it’s all the desktop most people would ever need, especially if, like me, you get it with a 500 GB hard drive. One big advantage of using this machine as a desktop is that it is portable. If you don’t need a laptop on your person 24/7 like I do, you can have your cake and eat it too with this machine. I would have kept this computer forever, had I not needed more screen real estate. I could have added a Cinema display to the machine, but a friend, who is in love with the new glossy Apple screens, sold me his two 23 inch displays for a ridiculously cheap price, so I sold my MacBook Pro on eBay and bought a Mini, which drives the two displays beautifully. Sadly, it’s not as fast as the 17 inch Macbook Pro, but sometimes you can’t have everything. Apple claims this machine gets eight hours on the battery, but I can’t verify that, because as it was on my desk, it was always plugged in.
I was using the 15 inch MacBook Pro as my laptop and this a dream machine. I had the glossy screen changed out to a non reflective one. You can do this without voiding your warranty for a couple C notes by sending your computer off to a company called TechRestore. You can find them online. Sadly, right after I changed the screen out, Apple came out with a non reflective screen for the 15 inch MacBook Pro for only fifty dollars more. I guess I took it in the shorts on that one. However, I will say that my upgrade had a black bezel, whereas the Apple version has a grey one and ascetically, I think the black border around the screen just looks better. I can’t think of one bad thing to say about this machine, other than it’s smaller sibling is lighter and, of course, smaller. For many, this could be the only compter you need. I had the 2.8GHz version with a 500GB hard drive, which was the mirror of the drive on my 17 inch MacBook Pro. Most people would have been happy with these two machines and looking back, maybe I should have just purchased one of those Cinema displays and saved myself some money, but I didn’t.
The fastest 13 inch MacBook Pro runs at 2.53GHz, slower than the MacBook Pro I sold to get it, but the size and weight were the major factors for me. Like with the above 15 inch, I changed out the screen. I also upgraded the hard drive to 500GB and to make it even sweeter, after I got it back with the new screen, I sent it off to MCE in Southern California and had the DVD drive swapped out for a second 500GB harddrive. They not only put the second drive in my MacBook Pro, but they put the DVD drive into a nice little case, so that you can hook it up to your MacBook Pro via USB 2.0. This was my dream laptop. I took it with me everywhere and I can’t, absolutely can’t recommend this machine highly enough. Then someone stole it.
So now I had that Mac Mini with the two displays, but no laptop. And sadly, I’ve got a lot less money now, because I’m getting a whole lot less work, because of the downturn. So, this time around I can’t afford to trick out my machine to just the way I want it. I had to settle. So I bought the new unibody MacBook. No Firewire and at first I thought I’d be pretty cheesed not having it, but my external harddrives all use USB 2.0 as well and you know, I’m not really missing Firewire at all. Of course I can’t use target disk mode, but that’s the breaks. Also, I did have to upgrade the memory, come on Apple, everybody who’s ever put fingers to a keyboard knows 2GB or ram isn’t enough. But I’m living with the 250GB harddrive. The 2.26GHz processor doesn’t really seem all that much slower than what I had on the stolen MacBook Pro and I really like the rubberized bottom. I called TechRestore to see if they have an upgrade to a matte screen for these machines yet and they do and I will probably change out the screen, maybe, but maybe not, because I’m finding if I move the computer around a bit and turn down the display, I can almost live with the glossy screen. We’ll see.
In conclusion I’ve got to say, having owned them all, that they are all great and wonderful machines. I hope I’m not sounding like an Apple fan boy, because I’m not. They could have made the machines better, by offering a matte display to those of us who wanted it for no extra money on the 15 and 17 inch one. Also you don’t have to be a professional with a lot of money to be bugged by glare, they could have offered a matte display on their two 13 inch models. They could have put 4GB of RAM into the MacBook, but they wanted to keep the price under a thousand dollars. Still, even with those gripes, these are the best laptops out there. Besides, consider the alternative, Windows 7, horror of horrors.
MacBook Pro is a Pro Rating:4 out of 5 stars I replaced my older Mac laptop with the MacBook Pro 15, and it’s a world of difference. The machine is quick, sleek, easy to operate and has very few glitches. My problems have to do with the keyboard. Although highly-touted (and the backlit feature is great), it’s not great for a fast typist. I also have a problem with the touchpad. It’s not as accurate as some of the past models, sometimes reacting way too quickly and sometimes not responding. Overall, though, it’s a great notebook computer.
I love my Mac Rating:5 out of 5 stars I thought it would be really diffucult to change from a PC to a Mac. I was wrong! Mac is very user friendly especially for someone like me who does not like change.. Love my Mac I find more things every day that make me love it even more.
The Best Rating:5 out of 5 stars I love this! This is my first Apple and I love it. I’am glad that I decided to invest in this. I would recommend to anyone. Apple is 5 steps above the rest.
MacBook Pro Rating:5 out of 5 stars This is a great machine…. only had it for 4 weeks.. I have been a PC user since mid 80′s… but was fed up with Microsoft software… blue screening… virus issues although none affected me personally… The machine has lived up to the advertising hype… and far beyond. I bought the Applecare 3 year extended warranty with phone support… The price was right via Amazon at 27% discount. I have taken a group lesson on getting started with the Mac… plus watched some of the many tutorials… and ave now decided that I should have purchased the One on One support good for 1 year for $99. Although you normally have to buy with the machine or within the two week return period… an Apple store manager waived the rule and allowed me to purchase 3+weeks. Means you can schedule personal tech help 0ne hour at a time as often as you wish… so a worthwile investment if you are used to PC’s as I was.
The speed of the machine is unbelievable… never ceases to amaze… and the screen legibility is second to none… Now wished I had purchased it earlier.
Another Convert Rating:5 out of 5 stars Didn’t take to long. Long time Dell small laptop user, this 13 inch MacBook Pro just “smokes” the PC in almost every category. The hardware, cords, and info are just packaged to get running fast and with ease. Even plugging in the power cord has a “magnet” type grab from an inch or so out and does not have a top or bottom!, nice, simple, and creative.
I agree with the weight for a small unit, but seemed to get comfortable quickly. The “one piece construction” could not be any lighter and does give you the feel of a solid, indestructible machine. CD/DVD player has played all types of movies with good volume if not using ear plugs or head phones.
I thought of buying the 3 year warranty extension but found that way to pricey. Shall stick to the one year plan and bank on the come.
All In All, first impression mirrors so many others who has switched to a Mac and really been impressed with the style, basic programs, and overall functionally. I look forward to adding some software in the near future.
The best computer I have ever had!! Rating:5 out of 5 stars I still wonder why I spent years in the ¨dark ages¨ working with PCs… but this computer is exceptionally well built, a pleasure to work with!!
Awesome Machine – Makes owning a laptop fun again Rating:5 out of 5 stars After 10 years of owning at least ten different laptop (Windows based PC) computers, this is easily the best computer I have ever owned (and the first apple PC).
I bought this model after months of debating whether to stick with a windows based PC or to make the leap. I’m so glad that I finally made the leap.
I use my laptop for web surfing, word processing, spreadsheets, basic photo/video editing and occasional gaming. This machine handles everything with ease and makes it fun to boot! The addition of Microsoft Word for MAC allows me to utilize this for work also and is a wonderful change from my company issued Dell which seems to struggle with even the simple tasks.
I really love how clean and professional this computer looks – I can’t stand how so many laptops these days adorn themselves with ugly plastic, bright and ugly looking colours with massive batteries hanging and often wobbling on the rear end.
Pros:
Beautiful, clean design and absolutely rock-solid construction quality.
Fantastic LED screen – vivid colours with great contrast (the best I have ever seen on a laptop).
Nice keyboard with backlit keys – absolutely essential when working in dim-light conditions.
Trackpad is very nice to use with lots of options for finger gestures for rotating images etc.
Fantastic battery life.
Light and Compact for a 15.4″ computer.
Reasonable good on-board speakers.
Nice compact power ‘brick’ with magnetic connection to Macbook.
Decent built-in web-cam.
useful SD card slot – means I don’t need to bother with those pesky USB cables when offloading photo/videos from cameras.
Powerful CPU – seems way quicker than a comparable windows PC.
Dedicated GPU – Good for occasional gamers with the option to switch to an integrated chip to preserve battery life when pixel crunching and high fps are not so important.
leopard/snow leopard OS are fantastic – so user friendly and easy to use.
Very fast boot up times – so different from Windows!
Ability to run windows based programmes and games through Bootcamp.
Aluminium construction allows for efficient heat transfer to keep core components relatively cool
Runs very quiet, even under considerable load – no loud fans.
Cons:
‘Sharp’ edge of palm rest can irritate wrists after extended amounts of typing.
Battery is no longer user-replacable.
I thoroughly recommend the macbookpro line to anyone wanting a laptop that will last and provide them with a fantastic interface for their computing.
Glad I bought it Rating:5 out of 5 stars My seven year old PC was starting to have a life of it’s own and I knew it was time to buy a new computer and a Laptop this time. I just could not face dealing with MS operating systems again. I took the plunge and spent the big $$ it takes to get a MacBook Pro. Apple had a one day sale $100 off, no shipping fee and no interest for a year I could not resist.
I am so glad I did. After one day of going through the learning curve and pulling out what’s left of my hair, life changed. It is such a pleasure to use. So nice not to have crapware and trialware to deal with and much more straightforward when dealing with installing/uninstalling software.
At the same time I was purchasing this a friend was going to also but at the last minute could not resist the cheap pricing on PC Laptops currently available. Well its about a month later now and his network has failed, some of the programs don’t run, and a PC specialist is coming out to fix and reconfigure his system at quite a chunk of money per hour. Macs are expensive and time will tell about reliability but I am very happy so far and feel it’s money well spent.
Best Windows Machine I’ve Found Rating:5 out of 5 stars My business involves creating fairly large reports, and distributing them via pdf files. I use Adobe Acrobat probably as much as any other software. But my old laptop just wasn’t up to the demands of Acrobat, freezing up for, at times, up to 20 minutes while processing graphics-rich reports. So a new, more powerful computer was required. (I travel enough so that a laptop is my only feasible solution.)
After looking at the array of available Windows-based laptops, I concluded that none of them had the combination of portability (I do not want a 10-pound laptop), battery life, and graphics horsepower provided by the MacBook Pro. The idea that I could run Windows via BootCamp and the Parallels virtual-machine environment sealed the deal for me.
I’ve been using this machine for about 4 months now, and it has been all I hoped for. The hardware is bulletproof, and Windows runs flawlessly via BootCamp. Parallels version 4 was a little clunky (mouse was very jerky when I ran Vista in Parallels 4), but now that I’ve upgraded to Parallels 5 things work much more smoothly, so I can run Vista and OSX simultaneously if I wish. Graphics are spectacular, Acrobat works like a champ, and the keyboard is the best laptop keyboard I’ve used for touch typing.
What are the drawbacks?
1. If you run Vista under BootCamp, battery life is only about 2.5 hours under heavy use; it’s well over 6 hours when running Mac OSX.
2. The keyboard, though great for typing, is NOT a Windows keyboard. So many things you are used to doing via keyboard shortcuts are not available to you with this machine unless you buy a separate keyboard.
3. My old faithful Logitech VX Nano mouse just didn’t ever quite pair up with this computer; drag and drop were always an adventure. I bought a new Logitech Bluetooth mouse (V470?) that is flawless, and saves me a USB port in the process.
4. Only 2 USB ports? Ridiculous! Four USBs should be an absolute minimum for any laptop IMO, though the excellent Bluetooth (which allows you to pair an apparently unlimited number of peripherals) certainly helps. My Toshiba DynaDock port expander has helped by affording me an extra 5 USB ports along with outboard video and audio opportunities. The DynaDock works well under both OSX and Vista.
For me, OSX is not an option as a serious operating system, simply because my profession (I’m an engineer) requires that I use a lot of proprietary software written only as Microsoft-compatible code. But when I am just surfing the web, or doing other goof-off stuff, I’m usually logged into OSX. Also, I’m so used to the user interface in Vista that Office for Mac is a lot less convenient (for me). But this is a great machine – highly recommended.
Sleek,Sharp, And Quick Rating:4 out of 5 stars Im originally a windows user but after awhile I decided to see what the big deal was with the mac.
3 Concerns I had:
Compatibility with Windows Products – Not a problem considering you can run parallels and dual boot windows xp,vista, and even 7.
Speed- 2.8ghz is fast and it runs adobe photoshop cs4 perfectly with no lag whatsoever. The apple website also allows you to upgrade it to 3.06ghz which is :0.
Durability and customer service & repair – The new body design on this is very sleek and slim feels amazing and not flimsy or anything. OKAY the biggest thing that impressed me was how fast and helpful customer service and repairs are. I plugged my apple headphones from my iphone into the jack and for some reason the speakers blew out, I called and got it shipped later that day and received it before the week was even over. The mac overall is very neat and if you are savy with technology there is alot more things you can do to unlock the macs Inner powers
Love my new Mac Rating:5 out of 5 stars So I finally moved from Windows to Mac and really enjoy it. The MBP 15in is a great machine an I’m glad I bought it. It is such a sleek machine and the battery life is crazy! I never knew I could have such a great laptop. All the Window based laptops are built so cheap and bulky. This machine is slim and solid. All in all a great machine that is working excellent
Beautiful yet not flawless Rating:3 out of 5 stars I bought the 15.4″ mac after having gone through 3 PC in less than 5 years. Needless to say, I was fraustrated with each PC after a couple of years, it either dies on me or some apps fails to work properly because the forced upgrade that Windows kept pushing into the PC is not compatible with the apps. After my last Sony VAIO desktop died on me first with the blu-ray disc drive, and then the apps began to fail, I turned to Mac hoping this kind of problem will no longer happen and the macbook pro will last me years to come. I was debating between 15″ and 17″ because I like the bigger screen size (my Vaio desktop was 21″) and the ease to carry around. After visiting the apple store I decided 15″ is the perfect size and with Amazon.com’s competitive pricing and fast delivery, I got it in two days. I’m impressed with the design of Macbook pro and how fast it is to start up and shut down. The resolution is amazing, particularly with iphoto, you can see every detail of the picture. I have yet to explore other apps other than itunes. The advertised battary life was 7 hours, I haven’t fully tested that yet, although I noticed that the battery generally start at about 5-6 hours after a full charge. I would have given this product a five stars review if it wasn’t for the mac freezes. For example, I was importing a CD into itunes, but after importing only 2 songs, the whole screen suddenly froze and I could not force quit the app or move the cursor. I had to hold the power botton for 8 sec to force the mac to shut down. Fortunately, there was no issue when I re-started the mac. However, for a product that is highly priced, this should not happen.
A beautiful machine that is a pleasure to work with, with excellent new features, and a robust and flexible operating system Rating:5 out of 5 stars I don’t want to retread the tired “Macs vs. PCs” arguments here, but, let’s face it, part of what you pay for when you buy a Mac are the aesthetics, and this is the most aesthetically pleasing piece of equipment I’ve ever worked with. Of course I know that for some purposes and for some people, PCs are likely to be more practical and versatile than Macs. For me, though, utility alone is not enough, and my last laptop (a Sony Vaio) turned out not to be very useful: after two years and when my warranty was up the motherboard failed and I had a brick on my hands. I switched to Macs about 10 years ago, when I started doing more video editing and creative work on my PC, and I’ve come to love the way they feel. I’ve worked with four different Macs over those ten years (two at work, and two at home), and I really like working with this one. I’d compare the difference between this laptop and PC laptops I’ve worked with on and off over the years (Sonys, Toshibas and Dells, to be exact) to the difference between taking notes in perfectly serviceable but ordinary notebooks and a Moleskine, or between a decent but generic pen and the one that fits your hand perfectly.
From the simplicity of the touch pad, that eliminates the button entirely so that the pad itself becomes both button and trackpad, to the smoothness and solidity of the unibody aluminum casing, to the glow of the screen against the black frame, to the surprisingly good sound from the speakers, to the look of the operating system with its clever and subtle animated icons, this is a fun machine to work and play with. I actually look forward to getting on and plugging in grades while listening to my iTunes, or to reading the news, or typing a report. The graphics capacity on this model is impressive, and the 2.8MHz processor combined with 4GB of RAM seems really to boost up the operations that have tended to take me the most time, like converting video from my AVCHD [[camcorder]], and rendering video on Final Cut Express. I’m very happy with this machine, and it does everything I want and does it very well.
I know I may sound like a Mac enthusiast here, but I’m not just a blind devotee. I’ve had my share of troubles with Macs, and other Apple products. No machine this complex is going to be flawless – there are too many things that can go wrong. But their service is generally good, and when you have a problem while under warranty they take care of it promptly and well – I have had a few occasions over the years to call Apple customer service and in every case they’ve taken care of my problem quickly. Also, once you get used to the operating system, you can see that they have worked hard to make it as easy and as flexible as possible. One thing I did when I got this one, since I knew I’d be working with Snow Leopard, was to sit down and really learn the ins and outs of the operating system – and there’s no better guide for that than David Pogue’s Mac OS X Snow Leopard: The Missing Manual. It’s pretty straightforward, and easy enough to get used to, but it’s a remarkably well-designed and robust operating system that can really work very well for you if you take the time to get to know its secrets. Working through some of the details helped me to appreciate even further how much flexibility there is built into this system, and how carefully the Mac developers have thought everything through, making it possible, for example to do almost everything in a few key strokes as well as with the mouse. It’s a great machine, with a very nice design, that makes for a truly satisfying computing experience.
Update, after a few months of use: one minor complaint about this design is that the edges are a bit sharp. Aesthetically, the top edge of the laptop base, with its crisp 90 degree angles where the folded screen meets the base, gives the impression of a precisely engineered piece of equipment. It creates a seamless “seal” when closed. On the other hand, after using this for a while I find the pointy edge tends to irritate my forearms just below my wrists. A slight curve at the edge would look as good, but would be a bit more comfortable.
Don’t be a sucker! Rating:1 out of 5 stars I have both PC’s and Macs. I have always loved my mac’s. But buying this laptop was a mistake. I would like to think it was just one lemon, but my daughter bought one about a year ago and it has been taken in for service a couple times and it makes horrible noises that the apple repair person can’t seem to hear. My MacBook Pro is just falling apart. It has never worked right always freezing up, way to hot and battery’s going bad. The beautiful exterior is coming off. I don’t know what happened to apple. My daughter had a 13″ apple laptop that was great for years. We had a couple imac’s over the years with no problems. I am now looking for a desktop and would like to trust Apple products but for the $$$ I am going to go PC. My husband and other daughter both have HP laptops and they are so much better in every way (like they work) than the MacBook Pro. I was alway’s backing Apple when it came to what computers to buy in our family, sorry to say there will be no arguement from me.
Apple’s quality is going downhill Rating:3 out of 5 stars Without a doubt, the *design* of this laptop is fantastic. I love the solid machined aluminum frame, and the keyboard is the best of any laptop I’ve used. Unfortunately, Apple’s quality has continued to slide. Despite the claims of the Apple apologists (a vice of which I am recently myself reformed) the internals of Mac laptops are NO different from PCs’ at this point. It’s now all commodity hardware. And that probably explains why I’ve already had my SATA controller go bad within a year of buying it. (The SATA controller is the motherboard chip that lets the CPU talk to the hard drive.) Looking online, many people are having the same problem. (If you ever see the spinning beachball come up when you think it shouldn’t, check the “Activity Monitor” app to see if the disk throughput has temporarily dropped to zero. If so, you may be having similar problems.)
My friend just had to replace his entire motherboard, so did my wife, and it looks like I will have to as well. While Apple’s saving grace is the fact that they at least stand behind their products, and their support is great, it would be nice if their products were more reliable to justify the premium.
REVISED …. Rating:4 out of 5 stars After owning this Macbook Pro for over a half-year, I can say I’d never go back to PC.
I DID get a faulty graphics card…the discrete-card setting results in system lock-ups routinely. Apple will repair, but I have to be without my machine for at least a week. As long as I run the integrated graphics, I have no problem.
And, aside from THAT…the machine is beautiful, OS X is almost perfect, and 8 GB of RAM allow multiple OS’s running simultaneously (virtual) with no loss of performance. Anything is possible on this thing…
Suffice to say that my early love/hate relationship has gone to near pure love.

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
This is my first Mac after using Dell laptops since 2001. The learning curve was a little steep, but I am now comfortable with OS X. However, the machine itself is poorly made. I had one for a few weeks, and the Airport card stopped working, and the felt piece on the CD slot came loose and was hanging out. Went to the Genius, and he told me the machine would be ‘DOA’ed, and I’d get a new one. Great…got a new one, and it has frozen up on me dozens of times. The first guy took me through a few system resets, but the problem resurfaced. Second Genius said to reformat and reinstall my OS. Did that, no help. Third guy says it’s the keyboard/track pad, and I will have to now be without my computer for several days. NOT acceptable as I use this for work.
Bottom line, it’s a pretty machine, and would be great if it worked as advertised. It does NOT just work, however
If you count on your machine being available every day for work or other productivity, stay away from a MAC. If it breaks, you’re without it for DAYS!. I remember when the DELL technician came to my office and replaced the motherboard in my computer right on my desk!.
MACs will never surpass PC’s because they are too much flash and not enough dependability.
Excellent laptop… Rating:5 out of 5 stars Yeah, you are paying a little more but you are paying more for quality parts. This laptop not only works well as family machine but when I need the robustness of a desktop for video and photography, I know I can trust it with this laptop. You will not only enjoy the keyboard and light weight of the laptop but as well as the excellent design of the Operating System. I have used Mac products now since 2002. They just last. My mother is still using my PowerBook G4 I pick up in 2002. The only thing that wore out was the hinges. No problem fixing. You will enjoy using this laptop.
Easy to use some minor tweeking needed Rating:5 out of 5 stars I like this computer still learning how to use properly some of the features garage band particularly useful since I’m learnig to play guitar also the interface between screens and the speech function are brilliant I got this because after 3 years of using the iPhone and many toshiba satellite I decided to give it a try I still belive it to b overpriced however when you put into the equation the fact that your computer doesn’t freeze or get viruses … That does it for me I like the video editing software too and the fact that I can sync several email accounts in one folder overall stilish etc a good buy on amazon specially because what the” Genious” in the store never tells you is that you can save the tax by ordering here in addition if you chooseto buy the protection plan wich I never do you can get it cheaper in amazon too
12 years of windows, and now, liking the mac Rating:5 out of 5 stars I didn’t want to convert over to mac land. As a college teacher and a twelve year windows user, I was a windows convert. I live and work on a windows network of 60 pc’s. I tried to find a windows laptop that had good reviews, was relatively light and thin, was made from aluminum and had a battery life of 6 hours. I was unable to find anything that fit those parameters except this macbook.
Most of the software I use on a daily basis was windows, so when I bought this mac I also bought Parallels, and a copy of Vista so that I could run vista in a virtual window on my mac. I wasn’t about to run out and buy all new software just because I bought a laptop with a goofy operating system.
Three months in, to my surprise, I am running most of my software in the mac os. It runs better there. The mac operating system is more reliable than windows. When people used to tell me that, I blew them off, thinking they were just mac fanboys.
I’m not a fanboy yet, but I am impressed with this new laptop. I did buy office 2007 for windows so I could use excell on the mac. Yes I know there is a mac version, but I also needed it on my other computer, which is a pc. I have had up to 9 word documents open simultaneously on my mac, in vista with no problems. Occasionally I see some lagging, and, as with any windows application, either office will crash from time to time, or vista will freeze up.
The cool thing about this macbook pro is that when windows goes belly up, or appears to be thinking about it, I simply click the mac desktop under vista’s virtual window and open some mac software to carry on working. Windows will either die, or sort itself out as I work in mac land. Windows does not stop me from working as it dies, because it is just a virtual window, and the mac os is always running behind it, ready to go.
In three months, I’ve only seen the mac os crash twice, and both times it was my fault. Once it was when I was trying to sync my blackjack 2 with the mac email software. Windows mobile does not like running in a virtual vista window (via parallels), so I had to find some crossover mac software so I could sync my windows cell phone with my new converted mac address book. That was tricky, and cost $50, but now the two machines (macbook and blackjack 2 cell phone) are on speaking terms.
The battery life is as impressive as advertised. I’ve never timed it to the end, but I do know it went 5 hours one time, and was not out of juice yet. I missed explorer for a while, but once I got used to the mac finder and realized that the mac does have a directory path, I could find my way around. Now I am faster in finder than I am in explorer.
I am a power user. I run the adobe creative suite, and frequently have photoshop, indesign, illustrator and dreamweaver open at the same time. Plus I will be running office in vista, with several browers open. The mac has no problem keeping all these software applications running simultaneously. Safari is a cool browser. I like it better than firefox.
There are of course a lot of other cool things I could comment on, but others already have. I’m glad I bought a macbook pro, instead of a windows laptop. It’s an awesome machine. Yes it costs more, but you get what you pay for and I wanted something that would last a long time.
Great Computer Great Price Rating:5 out of 5 stars I am very happy with this new mac. It is allot more stylish than the older version and more comfortable to work with.
Excelente laptop..!!
Incredible defined Rating:5 out of 5 stars In short, this new apple laptop gives ultimate performace while delivering a model of aesthetic beauty. I am perhaps guilty of drinking the kool-aid, but one drive on this machine will turn most as it has with me. Those who want the finest operating system, which is very easy to use as it is completely intuitive, can use the snow leopard installed, and those who want to use another product can use either bootcamp to boot natively, or use an emulation program to run windows in another window. Everything on this machine works seamlessly and easily. Where I once spent hours installing drivers, connecting to routers after being dropped, or trying to share files, this laptop did without requiring any mental anguish on my part. For that Apple, I salute you.
Windows Lovers: This Thing Does NOT Crash! No more blue screens of death! Rating:5 out of 5 stars Put me in the column of rabid Windows defenders who discovered the new MAC OS and the new Macbook Pro 15.4″ laptop. For more than 30 years, after my first Apple-2 experience, I swore that I would never have another Apple computer.
In short, with my Windows-based PC, every time I went to use it to edit photos, make a music mix, copy some home video to DVD: I would have to download and install a bunch of updates, then reboot, then try to figure out what they meant when they said my simple little program won’t work because of “giffelflexbot.dll not found.” Once I found and fixed a problem, Microsoft would then demand that I re-register my operating system or it would stop working altogether.
I was beginning to stabilize my Windows XP SP3 system — until Microsoft announced that they would no longer support that system. So, I had just upgraded to Windows Vista when Microsoft announced that I will now need Windows 7. Oh yeah, and the Vista system wanted me to buy a whole slew of new peripherals.
Shopping for a the newest Intel-based PC, I came across the Macbook Pro systems. The looks and the features, plus the Intel-based board, made me go ahead and spend $1,699 in the hopes that the MAC would outperform my old machine.
I’ve been using this Macbook Pro 15 for five months now, and the best comment I can offer to skeptics is that IT DOES NOT CRASH! No more blue-screens-of-death. When something does go wrong, the Snow Leopard system finds a way to FIX the problem and get me back on track in a matter of minutes.
At the same time I bought my Macbook Pro for myself, I bought a high-end PC-based Dell laptop for my wife. She complains about all the common Windows problems a lot, and I still have to fix them. I actually had to dumb the Dell Vista system down to 32-bit so her apps will work. Clearly, her next laptop is going to be a Macbook.
Sure, I love the LED display, and I love the backlit keyboard. And of course I’m a bit perplexed that I have to buy some new cables to use the Firewire 800 and mini-display ports. I’d think for a $1,699 laptop that Apple would supply a few odd cables to make buyers happier.
I can’t believe my laptop didn’t crash, and didn’t have any encounters with internet viruses and trojan horses, while I wrote this review.
Laptop is fine, service is a joke Rating:3 out of 5 stars As a long-time (20+ years) PC user, I had to buy a Mac to develop apps for the iPhone. Although the keyboard is still more limited than I would like, I was able to become accustomed to the “Apple” way of getting things done (function follows form with them). The hardware is nice and solid, although one expects that for something costing twice as much as the competition. However, Apple customer care is sadly lacking, and you’ll get differing answers when you ask about getting a repair. For them, the customer is always wrong.
Vast improvement over Windows Rating:5 out of 5 stars It is a pleasure to return to a Mac after a 14-year hiatus as a “business person.” As a stay-at-home-mom, with a new Vista laptop I was ready to hurl through the window, it occurred to me, why continue to suffer?
Overall, I love this machine. I can have 4-5 applications open at a time with no slow-down and no crashing (this includes memory-hungry photo and music apps). Eureka! I can group photos together and pop them into an email without checking five-gazillion times whether or not they went through, nor having to wade through yet another reboot, praying Vista will *then* have enough RAM to do what I’m asking it to do (yeah, I had 1G RAM on the Vista laptop – pathetic). And BEST of all, as a busy Mom, I can shut the lid, putting the machine to sleep MULTIPLE times (I mean, around 20??) and not have it hang, crash or slow down. Fellow Mom’s of two-year-olds know: if you have 30 seconds to do something, that’s all you have. If your machine doesn’t do what you ask of it in that time, Grandma doesn’t get her photos, husband doesn’t get his Amazon order, bill doesn’t get paid, etc., etc., etc. This machine virtually NEVER lets me down. Hallelujah!
There are some minor annoyances:
–Firefox crashes a bit. The underlying Mac OS never does, but I do have to relaunch Firefox a surprising number of times. Not true of Safari, but there are a few antiquated bill-paying sites that do not play well w/ Safari, so I have to go to Firefox (Macy’s charge?? Hello!).
–I love the track pad and dislike it too. Scrolling and zooming are super cool, but I am constantly accidentally doing things I do not intend. Probably user error? But physical documentation is slim unless you want to wade through the Apple sight (I have no time for this). And I CANNOT consistently master the PC equivalent of right-clicking. Very frustrating.
–THough I feel stupid writing this, the Mac’s delete key only works when cursor is in front of what you want to delete: i.e., like a PC’s Backspace key. What is the Mac equivelent of a PC’s delete key? I.e., put the cursor in front of text, and “pull” text in front of cursor backwards into oblivion. This drives me nuts.
–Pages (Mac equiv. of Word) and Numbers (Mac equiv. of Excel) have really “pretty” document templates that are way sexier, but the apps themselves are clumsy, counter-intuitive and difficult to use (I couldn’t BELIEVE what I had to do to set the print area in Numbers, for example, nor how long it took me to find the solution in help). Pretty lame, esp. as I paid extra for these, and now plan to partition my drive with Bootcamp to run Windows on the side for Excel and Word. This is rectifiable with the work-around, however.
–Compatbility issues with silly/cheap USB devices you wouldn’t expect: my daughter’s Elmo phone, my digital photo frame, etc. Have to wait until I can use my husband’s PC. That said, stupid Vista wouldn’t recognize my 2003 digital Cannon Powershot 45 camera, and my Mac zipped my photos right into iPhoto without me doing anything except plugging it in! NICE. Also, Mac recognized my 2001 HP printer with no problems and automatically had/used a simple driver which prints just fine. SHOCKING to a Windows veteran.
–Changing default print preferences is so counter-intuitive I cannot believe it is an Apple process (PC equiv. is Start, Control Panel, Printers…).
Otherwise, no major problems. Some things are different/frustrating, but the pros FAR outweigh the cons. And I figure, when my daughter turns three, maybe I’ll finally be able to read the manual online! lol
thinking i made a mistake Rating:4 out of 5 stars Everyone said you need to buy a mac so i did. Even though there are some awesome apps., I am not blown away like I was expecting. Do I have anytime to learn how to play guitar?…no. I wonder…would I have done better buying something cheaper, while getting the same satisfaction. I bought this for durability, so I will wait and see.
Pretty machine, pretty poor support Rating:1 out of 5 stars I’m a PC guy, I’ve owned PC for 20 years and done professional support on them for over a decade and I’ve never seen service as I’ve seen with the Macbook Pro 15″
The Machine itself is sleek and pretty, the display looks nice and it has a comfortable fit to it. The processor etc seems to do what needs to be done and does it well. It is however twice the price of a compatible PC.
That in itself wouldn’t be much of a problem. Until there was a problem.
My son wanted a Mac, as his first machine, since he was paying for it we checked out Macs and bought this model, he was very pleased with it until he opened up the casing yesterday and the display looked like the a squashed spider from a Garfield cartoon.
I drove the hour to the apple store and am currently sitting in it. I talked to a manager named Lloyd and a “genius” named Henry and they informed me that the damage was our responsibility and that repairs would cost $1100. That is 70% of the cost of the machine and that price alone is more expensive than a compatible Windows 7 machine.
I have been involved in customer service for a lot of years and I’ve never seen anything so short sighted in my life, my son will be purchasing a lot of machines over the next 40 years, I’ll be purchasing several myself and have another son who will be going to college in a couple of years. As a technical support person I am called to recommend machines and companies. The willingness to discard customers once the money is in hand is beyond anything I’ve ever seen in my life.
I’m afraid that slick media and good actors selling a product is no replacement for actual customer service.
You couldn’t get me to buy an apple now with a federal bailout. And you shouldn’t either!
Best laptop ever Rating:4 out of 5 stars First, let me say I’m an IT consultant and as such a bit of a computer snob. I build my own workstations and servers and know what’s what and where things count. My previous laptop was a IBM Thinkpad T23 that was the most bulletproof computer I’ve ever owned. I dragged that thing around with me for 8+ years and it never gave me a single problem. However, it was just too slow to keep up with me and my need to run Adobe’s creative suite and MS Office 2007. My expectations for a replacement were quite high and I set my sites on the MBP about a year ago and watched the specs slowly creep up to where I wanted them and of course waited for Snow Leopard to arrive. What finally sold me was VMWare Fusion, which allows you to run Windows as a virtual machine from within OS X. I know Bootcamp can boot Windows, but I wanted to work entirely within OS X as I don’t have time to be rebooting and reopening things. This was a must-have both for the ability to run my huge investment in Windows software as well as run the various flavors of Windows needed to support my clients. The folks at the local Apple store showed me VMWare running and I placed my order the same day. I went for the matte screen and 500gb drive, both of which I am very glad I did. The glossy screen is gorgeous, but I was going to use this as a laptop not as a desktop replacement, meaning it would be going with me in all sorts of environments where I couldn’t control the ambient lighting so glare was a huge concern. The matte screen isn’t quite as sexy, but it is still the brightest LCD screen I have ever used. I turn the brightness down a couple clicks even when on AC power, just because it’s so dang bright.
The performance of this laptop is amazing. I went with the 2.8 GHz CPU and as such got the dual video cards with maximum video RAM. I run at least a half dozen different programs at once, sometimes more, including Firefox with 20+ tabs and VMWare running a virtual machine of Windows 7 and this thing doesn’t not even hiccup. Blazing, screaming, insanely fast. My MBP arrived 9 days ago and I have yet to reboot it once. The trackpad is sweet and the finger gestures are a great innovation. The battery is also amazing. I’ve given up on the dedicated video (see below) and am getting 6+ hours out of a charge, without any extreme power saving efforts. I’m carefully counting each cycle, as I’m sure a lot of other users are, and will happily scream and yell at Apple if this thing doesn’t last 1000 cycles as promised.
Now for the Con’s, although they are minor.
1. The dual video cards seem a bit gimmicky. Okay, I’m glad for the dedicated card when running Adobe CS4 apps, but really, I could live with the performance of the onboard card. The dedicated video card also sucks battery and heats the laptop up considerably, almost alarmingly hot. Running the onboard video there is almost no discernible heat. The biggest annoyance is that you have to close everything and log out every time you want to switch cards. Because of the heat and battery issue, I’ve found myself just living with the onboard video. It’s not worth the hassle to log out and change it.
2. It’s a BIG HONKING laptop, almost as big as the 17″. If it was an inch narrower it would be the very definition of perfection. It barely fits in the laptop sleeve of my gigantic Patagonia Half Mass bag and it’s girth makes it a little cumbersome and unwieldy to pick up and move around or use on one’s lap. I would have happily gone for the 13″ model if I could have gotten the same performance specs.
I sell and repair computers for a living and this is hands-down the best laptop on the market for my specific needs. While I paid a premium I feel it was a good value. Average users would do well with the MacBook or 13″ MBP. Nothing in the PC laptop world even comes close. That being said, this review is specific to my needs for a laptop. A desktop is a completely different beast and my desktop workstation still runs Windows XP Pro.
MacBook Pro question Rating:3 out of 5 stars Question here – not a review: Some previous buyers have indicated that since mid September, select customers received OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. Earlier, in the product description, even AMZN had a SL logo right under the price. Now, it’s gone. The actual description never changed from OSX 10.5 Leopard. Can anyone confirm that they have or haven’t received 10.6 since mid-September?
Well worth the cost for me Rating:5 out of 5 stars I switched to Mac in August 2008. I bought the Black 13.3″ MacBook and used it everyday for almost a year. When Apple changed their MacBook Pro lineup in June this year, I waited about a month until I could read the reviews and visit the Apple store several times. I wanted to upgrade because of the aluminum Unibody design, the SD card slot and the long battery life. I also found that the display on these newer one were so much better.
I sold my Black MacBook for a nice price and decided to go with the 15″ model here on Amazon. I’ve had it for about three months now and I still marvel at the simple elegant design. It is a pleasure to use everyday. The start up time is quick, the display and keyboard still look brand new. I don’t have a desk top computer anymore so this MacBook Pro has to do it all, My one complaint would be the mini dvi port, It’s not the same as my 13.3″ one so I have to buy a new adapter. I’m holding off because I am seriously considering getting an Apple display to complement this laptop.
WONDERFUL COMPUTER Rating:5 out of 5 stars This is by far the best computer that i have EVER owned, and i have owned over 10 different computers. The quality is unsurpassable, and it is clear that you are getting the most for your money.
Prior to this Mac, i had had PCs, and thought that i would never want a Mac, ever. Some of my reasons were ‘oh it’s too expensive,’ and ‘you’re just paying for the brand’
Both of these were proven untrue once i was gifted this amazing computer. You are not paying for the brand, you are paying for top-of-the-line technology, and an environmentally sound, as well as functionally sound computer.
This computer has literally changed my outlook of all computers. and i wish that EVERYONE who is an active computer user was able to have this wonderful, amazing, stylish, sleek computer.
Mac is awesome. Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have been using Windows for 13 years now and I have been happy for a while. I built many Windows computers and even my current one (quad core, 8gb Ram) and used Windows Vista Premium 64x. Windows is a very good operating system, it is functional (despite what some say, Vista worked great after SP1) but it uses its resources terribly.
With that said, this laptop is amazing. The screen is larger and so beautiful (using LEDs makes it very efficient as well). The backlite keyboard and the laptop in general oozes sexyness. But some may comment on the hardware included with it (small HDD, 4gb ran, nvidia 9400m) and they can get a really kick-ass windows computer for the same if not less more. Though if you think performance will be better, it won’t. Mac OSX 10.6 uses the hardware provided and runs QUICKER than my Windows PC mentioned above. The laptop itself is thin and lite but is made of aluminum so it is durable. Speakers are great for a laptop and the battery life is 7 hours+ with some dimming. Only problem I have is i cannot connect my networked printer, but I am working on that.
Mac OSX 10.6 is a very stable, quick, sleek, fun operating system. The laptop comes with all you need to get started, just make sure you run the updating software ect. I thought I was going to have a hell of a time adapting to it, but I did so in less than two days. If your looking at this for a laptop GET IT. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
Can’t believe Amazon’s false advertising Rating:1 out of 5 stars Here I ordered the item as advertised with Snow Leopard, and it arrives with the OLD operating system. I feel cheated and there is no way to get it back to Amazon from South Africa AT THERE COST. I’ve paid for the item, and Amazon makes a HUGE error.
Macbook Pro laptop Rating:5 out of 5 stars Excellent product. it is my fourth one and 9th one for my business. Won’t be the last. The delivery, however, was disappointing. The delivery service had a problem near their depot which delayed and rerouted some of their trucks. They did not update their tracking website for 4 days and when they did it was 6 hours behind. Sending e-mails to their HQ resulted in completely unhelpful replies. Amazon should drop them and go with some other service.
Beautiful, Easy & Very Efficient Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have been eyeing Macs for a while now but didn’t want to make the switch from PC because I thought it would be really involved. Well my PC finally died so I was forced to do it and I am SOOO glad I did.
I have had no problems at all converting my Word and Excel files and using them on my Mac because we downloaded OpenOffice for Mac for free, which recognizes all my files!
I also purchased the program Parallels ($80) so I can run Windows (while running my Mac operating system at the same time) for those few programs that are too pricey to repurchase for Mac right now.
I am not very computer savvy. I didn’t know ANYTHING about Mac when I switched over and I found it the be incredibly intuitive, easy to understand, and addictive!! It did help that my husband was a bit familiar and could install Parallels, etc.
What I love most is that the programs seem to be made to work with each other. For example when first adding people to my address book, I noticed it automatically added their birthday to icalander. And when I opened an evite in my email I could click once next to the party time and it automatically adds it to my icalander. My camera automatically recognizes my pictures and downloads them to iphoto which organizes them by day and is very easy to use. This goes on and on.
For the reviewer that said the edges are sharp & rub his wrists raw….he scared the heck out of me and I almost didn’t buy it because of him. Yes the edges are a bit hard but I have never, ever had an issue with this at all. I use it as a laptop and sitting at the desk, in the car, etc. and have had no problems with wrist comfort at all.
I highly, highly recommend Mac. The only problems I have are when I am running PC programs. Didn’t realize how many popups and issues PC has until I don’t have ANY AT ALL with the Mac. Simply the most amazing product i have every purchased.
One of the best notebook computers on the market
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
It does not feel cheap, and it is very FAST.
BEWARE – Sharp corners, bad hand position ruined this purchase
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I decided it was time to replace my 4 year old Macbook Pro 15″ for a snazzy new unibody 15″ Macbook Pro.
Bummed.
Best Money I’ve Spent in awhile.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this laptop, it is my first laptop and mac.
Apple has done it again
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my second laptop from apple and I love it.
Very good but not quite great
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
A bit over priced the screen and keyboard are great Would be better if it had more RAM and it has gotten very slow and I have only used 50GB of the 250GB HD space. The lap top gets very hot when on your lap and tends to overheat so I as I did I suggest you get an application where you can control the fan speed which helps. Operating system is very good.

Gorgeous laptop!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is amazing laptop!
One drop of liquid = potential disaster
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Maybe even less than a drop.

Great Machine with a few exceptions
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The Unibody is really cool and the construction and feel of this machine are unrivaled.

15 Inch MacBook Pro Compared
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had a MacBook Pro 13 inch, have owned and liked both the 15 and 17 inch MacBook Pros.
MacBook Pro is a Pro

I replaced my older Mac laptop with the MacBook Pro 15, and it’s a world of difference.

This is a great machine…. only had it for 4 weeks..

Didn’t take to long.

Awesome Machine – Makes owning a laptop fun again
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
After 10 years of owning at least ten different laptop (Windows based PC) computers, this is easily the best computer I have ever owned (and the first apple PC).
Glad I bought it

My seven year old PC was starting to have a life of it’s own and I knew it was time to buy a new computer and a Laptop this time.
Best Windows Machine I’ve Found
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My business involves creating fairly large reports, and distributing them via pdf files.

Im originally a windows user but after awhile I decided to see what the big deal was with the mac.

I bought the 15.4″ mac after having gone through 3 PC in less than 5 years.
A beautiful machine that is a pleasure to work with, with excellent new features, and a robust and flexible operating system

I don’t want to retread the tired “Macs vs.

I have both PC’s and Macs.
Apple’s quality is going downhill
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Without a doubt, the *design* of this laptop is fantastic.
REVISED ….

After owning this Macbook Pro for over a half-year, I can say I’d never go back to PC.

Excellent laptop…

Yeah, you are paying a little more but you are paying more for quality parts.

12 years of windows, and now, liking the mac
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I didn’t want to convert over to mac land.
Great Computer Great Price

In short, this new apple laptop gives ultimate performace while delivering a model of aesthetic beauty.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Put me in the column of rabid Windows defenders who discovered the new MAC OS and the new Macbook Pro 15.4″ laptop.
Again I say, THE MACBOOK PRO DOES NOT CRASH!
Laptop is fine, service is a joke

As a long-time (20+ years) PC user, I had to buy a Mac to develop apps for the iPhone.
Vast improvement over Windows

It is a pleasure to return to a Mac after a 14-year hiatus as a “business person.” As a stay-at-home-mom, with a new Vista laptop I was ready to hurl through the window, it occurred to me, why continue to suffer?
And I figure, when my daughter turns three, maybe I’ll finally be able to read the manual online! lol
thinking i made a mistake

Everyone said you need to buy a mac so i did. Even though there are some awesome apps., I am not blown away like I was expecting. Do I have anytime to learn how to play guitar?…no. I wonder…would I have done better buying something cheaper, while getting the same satisfaction. I bought this for durability, so I will wait and see.
Pretty machine, pretty poor support
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I’m a PC guy, I’ve owned PC for 20 years and done professional support on them for over a decade and I’ve never seen service as I’ve seen with the Macbook Pro 15″
Best laptop ever
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
First, let me say I’m an IT consultant and as such a bit of a computer snob.
MacBook Pro question
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Question here – not a review: Some previous buyers have indicated that since mid September, select customers received OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. Earlier, in the product description, even AMZN had a SL logo right under the price. Now, it’s gone. The actual description never changed from OSX 10.5 Leopard. Can anyone confirm that they have or haven’t received 10.6 since mid-September?
Well worth the cost for me

I switched to Mac in August 2008.
WONDERFUL COMPUTER
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is by far the best computer that i have EVER owned, and i have owned over 10 different computers.

I have been using Windows for 13 years now and I have been happy for a while.
Can’t believe Amazon’s false advertising

Excellent product. it is my fourth one and 9th one for my business.
Beautiful, Easy & Very Efficient

I have been eyeing Macs for a while now but didn’t want to make the switch from PC because I thought it would be really involved.
