It may be the slimmest Digital ELPH Canon has ever created, but the impact couldn’t be bigger. The PowerShot SD780 IS Digital ELPH captivates the senses with bold saturated colors and a daringly original design that matches the intensity of Canon’s most innovative camera technology. Even when picture-taking conditions seem pretty unforgiving, you’ve got Canon on your side. So the shots you used to miss are the images you’ll now be sharing, and the movies you never took before will be HD

the shutter lag is what kind of annoys me, but this thing is SO tiny and easy to throw in your bag that it’s great for candids when just hanging out with friends. I am happy to always have it lying around in case ther’es an unexpected photo opp waiting around the corner but sometimes nothing beats an SRL, even if they are rather heavy. The video feature is also quite nice, though like other reviewers said, it’s a shame you can’t zoom while filming.
A little jewel
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is overall a fantastic camera. I bought it to replace another Canon (Elph 1000) which worked well in closeup/macro situations but not so well in poor light or glare, and had some general issues with light quality and focus. So I had some trepidations, but figured – or rather, hoped – that Canon had worked out the bugs on the earlier elph (which I bought in 2007). This one is a revelation – it’s simply a superb little camera that pretends it’s an SRL. My wife wanted a small camera for her archival work, and I wanted something that was versatile and had an effective macro. Both of us wanted a camera with high quality video (Check) and a children and pets setting (for photos of our toddler and pets – check!).
Only two negatives: the zoom is fairly useless, and the auto setting is to be avoided, as it tries to do everything to prevent the flash from going off – specifically, what it defaults is relatively long aperture (1/15 or 1/10 sec) and high ISO settings. As a consequence, lots of photos taken on AUTO look blurry or out of focus. The PROGram setting is brilliant, though, and the optics components seem really quite good (esp. for the price). I’ve taken about 2000 photos in the last 2 months, and could not be happier (and did I mention the price?)
Well it just beautiful

Just like my old one, which got stolen, but maybe even a little better. I do miss being able to do the color swapping and color accenting with pictures and not just video.
Excellent For Rock Concerts!!!!!!!!!!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I had a very specific use case for this camera. That I could take it into rock shows and get awesome photos and videos. This camera ROCKS!! Simple enough. Why? Well I’m not really a camera expert so I can’t give you all the specs but here is why I bought it and what makes it an awesome choice.
-I wanted something fast enough with continious shooting. I can use on the program mode at 800 or 1600 without a flash and still capture rock stars who tend to move around quickly in low or flashing light.
-It had to be small and powerful–well this camera fit that bill better than any other. The digital zoom works great. It’s like a real zoom. I can shoot from the back of a venue and still get photos and video
-HD video was a must b.c I love to put my videos on you tube (cynsk8 is my page) and I have captured some amazing video of some heavy bands. The video quality is perfect and the audio better than most of what I have seen out there by other non-professionals.
-The auto mode had to be smart and flexible. Which it is, I can shoot on auto with a flash at a rock show from the edge of the stage and capture shots that are as good as a large professional camera. So much so that everyone asks me about my camera once they see the shots.
-Sturdy, so far so good even in the middle of a mosh pit, I’ve gotten pretty tossled and had to close the lens on a moments notice and so far no issues. I have been worried about this, but I trust that Canon has made the sturdiest little camera.
-Useability, a touch screen control wouldn’t work for me b.c I often cannot look down at the screen while I am adjusting the camera. I can seemlessly switch between auto/program/video with a touch. I can also turn off the flash without looking down. The zoom is so easy and the entire usage can be done with one hand–which at a concert is all I ever have available.

bad red eye
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
It has big red-eye problem even with Red-eye Reduction setting. My experience is bad with this camera
DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA IF YOU WANT TO FILM IN HD
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have owned 4 different versions of the Canon PowerShot series, and to date, I have been happy with all of them. I bought this one specifically for the HD video, and was VERY disappointed. The HD video looks fine on the camera, but when you download it to the computer and watch it in Quicktime, the video frames are choppy and the sound is out of sync with the video. If you drop the resolution down to VGA it works fine, but that is not the reason I bought this camera!
SD780IS – highly recommended!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is my fourth Canon PowerShot digital camera. I take my camera everywhere on trips, and usually throw it in my pocket…and they have all lasted longer than they should have. Reliable picture quality. Plenty of custom settings. I love it…was worried about the smaller 2.5″ display (last Canon had 3″ display), but barely notice the difference. I love the HD video capturing ability, nice small and compact design. Though the brushed aluminum finish makes it slippery, extra care is needed when taking pictures, making sure you have the wrist strap on. I rarely even shoot in full 12MP size, because I share pictures online most of the time….5MB setting is more than enough. Great battery life. Great image quality. Sturdy outter design. I definitely recommend this camera…easy to tuck in your pocket anywhere you go!

Canon Camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
So far I really like this camera! It is my first digital camera and I have been taking a lot of pictures! I have not downloaded to the internet yet, but plan to in the future! I would recommend this camera for ease of use and it has a viewfinder!!
An excellant camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I purchased this camera for taking pictures of our products. The camera it replaced did not take very good photo’s especially the lettering on labels etc. This camera does a fantastic job, it is so easy to use. You don’t have any settings to monkey around with, it works great on auto, all you do is point and click, and presto you have a crystal clear image, especially any lettering. Another feature I like is the battery. It lasts quite awhile. Our old camera took 2 AAA batteries which don’t last long especially if you use the zoom and flash features. I would recommend this little Cannon camera to everyone.
terrific camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love the little camera. It is the first camera I have ever used that works for me and takes incredible pictures. I have jittery hands and I always took ‘fuzzy’ unfocused pictures. I am thrilled that now I can shoot pictures I am proud of.
great camera!
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Very user friendly, great camera. My 15 year old daughter wanted it for a gift and the price was right! The picture quality is much better than my digital camera that I spent a fortune on! My daughter also loves all the color/cropping features. I would definitely recommend this camera.
Clearer pictures and easy to use
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I like taking pictures on the fly, so this camera has suited me well so far. Light and easy to carry anywhere. The picture quality is 100x better than my old camera and I’m quite impressed by the macros it takes. I have yet to expirement with all the features this camera offers, but I know I will soon.
The Always Carry Camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this camera as an upgrade to my Canon SD870IS. I use my little pocket cameras to video outdoor primal movement that I then edit them into training DVDs and needed a bit better video capacity. The SD780IS gives me that, plus outstanding still photography and it is even smaller. The HD video excellent. We compared it to the video from the SD870IS and my waterproof Canon D10. The difference is significant.
The controls are typical Canon style and easy for me to use. Because of the smaller size it took me maybe a day of use to get myself adjusted to it.
I have taken video in some extremely low light situations and been very impressed with it.
The battery is excellent and of course I bought a second one for when I am doing lots of video.
So far this is my favorite Always Carry Camera. I hiked up to a waterfall the other day and captured a rainbow in the falls. This camera really does job.
This camera rocks…

For fine still photography, I’m a Nikon man. For video or pocket cameras, I love Canon. Though my venerable Canon Powershot SD-450IS still works perfectly, it’s just 5 megapixel and the 4 year old battery had worn out. As I searched for a replacement battery, I also found reviews and videos on this Canon Powershot SD-780IS.
Turns out, this camera has all the great features and easy of use of my older camera, even better construction quality and shot brilliant 12 megapixel and 720p HD Video. It has better Image Stabilization (IS), beautiful color reproduction and a high quality feel. It won’t replace an HD Camcorder, but for the money and size, it can’t be beat. My only complain with the Powershot series is that none of these cameras will allow you to save images in their raw format, saving in processed jpeg format. But te average shooter won’t be doing extensive image processing, and the image quality is high enough that you still have no problem getting 11×14 (or larger!) paper prints if desired from good quality images. If you’re looking for a full-featured, shirt pocket camera that shoots great video with excellent low light capability, the SD-780IS answer! I recommend it, even over the newer SD-940IS.
Great
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I do not know too much about cameras, I love this camera. easy to use, great pictures. Very portable great camera for a family use.
Seems a bit flimsy compared with my previous model
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
The picture quality is quite good with this camera and viewable image is larger but the way its put together seems cheaper and control features are more recessed. Thus, though I don’t have large fingers, operating the camera feels a bit clumsy. I’ll keep it however.
Excellent small camera for capturing all events
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
An excellent camera that is small, cute and very effective. Do not be fooled by size, size does not matter. I brought this camera a month back and took it to my trip to Singapore without reading the manual. Took 800 photos and 760 of them came out very well. Ease of use, portability, and convenience are the hallmarks of this camera.
Very good camera

item to make quick and brilliant pictures.
Little Wizard
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Great little camera, amazing quality of video, super long lasting battery, good quality of pictures (especially closeups!). Couldn’t ask for more from this little wizard!
Easy to use & great outcome!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This Powershot SD780IS is very handy, easy to use and durable. My only bad feedback is the battery, I’m not sure maybe because due to cold weather, that why it low-bats immediately (for not using in a while). I guess that can be solve by having an extra battery. To top it all, just using it in auto, it captures the faces or whatever you want to focus, it does justice to what you to be seen.
It can also make videos (as most of handy dgcams can). its not as super clear like a vido cam, but its fine for making small vids, but the subject/s must be close to you, not okay if your subject/s are far from you.
Excellent value, surprising quality.

I’ve been a long time Canon point-and-shoot owner. Starting with the economical A series and moving over to the portable SD series when the MPs started to get big enough. My cameras typically last about 2 years after somewhat daily use. The SDs have provided me with pocket-sized digital photography and quick videos at somewhat affordable prices.
The SD780IS gives me adequate stills and video for my quick-shot needs, but if you’re looking for keepsake photos, you may have to step up. I am extremely happy with this cameras value. It offers 12.1 MP and a steady shot with the Image Stabilization. The HD video is only 720p, but any better quality would require better optics as well. The navigation is familiar Canon. The controls are designed with portability in mind. Although I was shopping the SD980IS also, the 780 offers all that I need in this size camera.
The only downer is that smooth edges reduce the stability of the camera in MY hands. I have clunky fat fingers. The squared off edges of the previous versions served me well. Not a deal breaker, just a little comfort adjustment in my head.

The camera is really good. Takes good pictures, although you’d have to manipulate it to stay ready for a shot. User friendly too.

I bought this to have a little camera to keep with me everywhere I go so I don’t miss capturing any of those little moments with my toddler.
I love mine so much a bought a second black one for my husband.
I have been using mine about 8 months and he has been using his a little over a month. We are both really happy with them.
Great Camera

Hands down the best $200 I’ve ever spent. Small enough to fit in your pocket and has the best zoom quality I have ever seen on a small camera. I would absolutely recommend this product to everyone. Its easy to use, and takes great photos. If your in the market for a small digital camera, you should definetly buy this one.
Excellent Point & Shoot Camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this camera a month back and I love this product. It is the best point and shoot camera in its class. Though its only 3x zoom you do not miss it much. The picture quality makes up for it. Do not expect SLR type quality from this camera. The biggest surprise was the HD video function. IT IS AMAZING!!! I am not a much video fan but since I have had this camera i have become one.
Nifty little camera
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This camera is easy to use and portable, but the photos are not as sharp as my old Nikon CoolPix. However, I wanted a camera with a shorter delay so I could take photos of animals and this one does the trick. Good buy!
Powerful & Tiny Camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I love this camera! Great to take everywhere in your pocket or purse. I own a Canon Rebel XSi and purchased the 780is as my everyday point and shoot. I am so glad I made this purchase. Pictures come out crisp and clear. The digital viewfinder/screen and settings are easy to work with.
If you are looking for a camera in the $200-250 range, this is the one for you. The fact that it takes high megapixel photos, hd video and size were my deciding factors (not to mention I own the other Canon and know how high quality their products are). The zoom is only 3x, but with a point and shoot you shouldn’t be expecting the world. Even still, the digital zoom doesn’t turn out pixulated photos as you may expect.
My only issues with this camera is that the optical viewfinder is a waste of time – I can barely see through it. The second isn’t really an issue, but because the camera is so small, the buttons are tiny as well. (I have big hands and adapted quickly.)
Overall, I would say buy this camera and never look back.
Awesome Stuff!!!

This camera is just what I had expected. It would have been simply perfect if it had a better capability of shooting panorama shots and shots in the dark.
everything I hoped for

sometimes it takes a few tries to get sharp action photos on auto mode, but you can set it up manually if you plan to take a lot of action shots or just need to make the first one good…otherwise fantastic all around
Wow!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Received the camera for Christmas and even though I wanted this camera after doing research, I was a litte awed by all it offers. I am not a photo buff that will talk your ears off about tech specs but wanted a camera that I could take my daughter’s pictures of events inside in low light after years of other cameras not being able to do the job right. It has features I am still studying how to use and the software that came with the camera is powerful enough for me to do all kinds of things. The camera takes very good low light pictures which is what I wanted. The camera itself is a sophisticated computer system nevermind the computer with the software. A bit smaller than I had in mind and if you have large fingers…you might have an issue as controls are very small. Takes awesome everyday pictures though!
Great little camera
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
The first thing that “hits you” is the small size of this camera. It takes amazingly high quality pictures, and is quite an improvement over my old SD1000. I highly recommend to anyone looking for an “aim and shoot”. It also takes nice video, and they play back on your television from the camera (cable included).
