HP Makes Really Good Printers – I Wish Mine Would Break So I Could Buy A Newer Model Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have an old HP DeskJet 932C and it has lasted for years. I don’t like inkjet printers because I’m a klutz and always get ink everywhere, but, since my son installs it for me, I’m good. I’ve had absolutely no problems with mine other than I wish it would break so I could get a newer model. When I do get one, it will be another HP.
HP Desk Jet F4480 Rating:4 out of 5 stars Overall I really like the printer. Multifunctions are great. It was an outstanding value for the price paid. It works and performs as advertised. The printer has a tendency to jamb when printing side two of an orginal sheet in more than three pages. Start of the first copy is slower than expected before copying begins. That is not a disadvantage for me because I do not have a need for frequent copying. The copier produces brillant color copies. I would not hesitate recommending this product to others.
An OK All in One Rating:3 out of 5 stars This is an OK all in one and it does an acceptable job at printing and scanning. It’s a little noisy when set at the “economy” print setting, and even at that setting it seems to use a lot of ink. I kept getting a “Windows – no disk Exception Processing Message c0000013″ popping up constantly but with a minor registry tweek I got rid of it.
All in all,and considering the price ($59.99), I can recommend it.
printer Rating:4 out of 5 stars Print quality is awesome, easy to use pretty compact and has all the features my daughter needed. Really like this printer.
Happy With It Rating:5 out of 5 stars I had a previous model quite similar to this one and when it bit the dust I bought this one. It is small and quiet and functions well.
Pleased with HP Purchase Rating:4 out of 5 stars For an inexpensive printer I have found the HP 4480 To be exceptional. My past experience with HP printers almost lead me to purchase a printer of another brand.
The price of the HP almost deterred me(too cheap);however the price(not much to lose) made the final decision. In the past the HP’s I’ve used have been plagued with paper jams. This one has been jam free thus far. The print quality has been excellent. I’ve been printing a lot of CD jackets as I’m converting my Vinyl Collection to digital. The picture quality on the CD jackets has been excellent.
This is my first experience with an all in one; printer, scanner, copier. It’s nice to have all three functions in one package, freeing up valuable desk space.
The printer does seem to consume a lot of ink but the cartridges are more reasonably priced than others I’ve used in the past.
As with all mechanical purchases my opinion of this printer will be detemined over time, as the printer continues to function over the long haul. If this printer is still working ten years from now and not taking up valuable space in a landfill I will consider this purchase to have been excellent.
If you don’t have an old USB printer cable buy one when you order this printer. The cable is not supplied with the printer.
Overall, at this time, I would consider the HP4480 to be a good purchase.
Great little Black Beauty Rating:5 out of 5 stars This printer is by far the best one I have ever had! It is light (see product description for how it’s made),small, and sets up in no time with no problems. It has a great gauge that shows how much ink is left in each of the cartridges, which is a real plus.Unlike some of the critics who complain about the small amount of ink provided, and its lasting capabilities,I found that using cadrtridge #60XL provides more than enough for my needs; plus, only 2 cartridges are required, not 3! One of the big pluses for me is that each time it is turned on it is ready to go at once. My other printer was the HP1500 and each time it was turned on it went through a series of realignments and unnecessary procedures that took forever! For the price, which is ridiculously low, this little baby can’t be beat! And I recommend it most highly.
So far so good for the price Rating:5 out of 5 stars Because I installed Windows 7 my old scanner and printer were now obsolete without drivers – I purchased them back when I was using Windows 98 (yes, they lasted that long and still work) so getting an all-in-one printer scanner made sense. This would be for personal use and not for any home business office. The delivery was quick from Amazon even under the slower free delivery option. Set up was almost painless – I had to turn the power off after I inserted the ink to get it to the next step but the instruction booklet did not say to do that – unless I misread it. But turning it on and off worked. This did not come with a USB cable – none do these days so I did not count that against them. The test print came out with much better quality than my old HP ink jet would produce. No idea yet how long the ink will last me and if I will be paper jam free or if it will stand up to my wear and tear (I don’t generally print a lot these days). Time will tell if this was worth the purchase but for $60 bucks I feel it was a great deal.
Worse than worthless Rating:1 out of 5 stars Got this thing for $1 with purchase of a new Macbook Pro. You get what you pay for. It jams about every third sheet of paper it attempts to feed. Scanner doesn’t wake up by pushing the ‘scan’ button on the unit. Initiating scanning from software works sometimes, but often fails due to ‘scanner errors’.
Shipping this without a cable is like shipping without a power cord. Rating:2 out of 5 stars Printer comes without a way to plut it into the computer. This is no different than shipping it without a power cord. Makes no sense and does not provide a good customer exprience. I am surprised at HP for such a cheap manuver.
Great little printer that scans! Rating:5 out of 5 stars This was the second one of these that I bought. I got the first one at a retail shop, not at Amazon. I liked the compactness and design so well that I decided to replace an old Epson scanner and Lexmark printer at another location with another HP F4480. I now have more room on my desk for external HD’s and things. I had another HP deskjet some time ago and hated the software that they shipped with it, so I was hesitant to buy the first F4480. HP makes better hardware than they do software, but this software seems much better. I don’t print or make many copies so for me the small ink cartridges are not a big issue. But if you plan on doing a lot of printing, especially photos you’ll be replacing cartridges more often than you would like. But this goes for most brands of inexpensive inkjet printers.
So far, works like a charm. Rating:5 out of 5 stars For $60, this all-in-one is a good deal. I just needed a simple printer/copier/scanner, so it’s perfect for me. No problems so far. The only thing I wish it had (as it does on the older model) is a size increasing function for the copier. Remember, you have to buy your own USB cable (A-B, male-male) to connect the printer to your computer.
Good All in One on Linux Rating:5 out of 5 stars I have not used it much, but it works very well so far.
I have not used the scanner, although it probably works just as well.
It is quite quiet and it seems to be very efficient at printing. It does not seem to make as many passes and it is much quieter than my previous printer (HP Deskject F380).
It is compact and has all the features I want. Works with Linux with HPLIP (see the site for it). I am using Debian Stable (Lenny, at this time).
great, works, wonderfully!!! Rating:5 out of 5 stars Dear Sirs, I love my new, 3-in-one,printer/scanner/copier,it works great!! the only bad thing is that, i have to,replace ink, carriage, for it, already!!(the carriages, are too small) thank you!!Esther
junk Rating:1 out of 5 stars couldn’t install w/cd, needed to download installation sf from hp’s web. it always happened w/hp printer. unnecessary program bothers operation.
printer response is slower than other printers i have. really noisy.
How do I hate thee, let me count the ways Rating:1 out of 5 stars This printer has been nothing but a source of trouble since I purchased it. To be fair, the upfront cost is fairly low and it looks reasonable. Unfortunately, the long term cost is high. This printer eats through ink for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One quarter into college (without any major source of printing like humanities or foreign language) it’s consumed two cartridges. Printing quality is subpar at best. Even black and white pages come out messy, like it uses the color cartridges and doesn’t align them properly. After fooling with the settings, my roommates and I were able to make it print text properly, but it took an hour or two that it shouldn’t have. When working, it prints quickly most of the time, but the speed is offset by the fact that the paper feeder does not work. Sure, it holds paper, but the printer is unable to properly feed it one sheet at a time. Often it will start printing on one sheet, then the paper feed will inadvertently pick up the next sheet in the paper tray and feed it in, creating a situation where half of the printing occurs where it should and half prints on the top of the next sheet. The only solution is feeding one sheet to the printer at a time. When the printer decides to spite us, it will suddenly stop printing in the middle of a page. It’s printing, printing, the sheet is half fed into the printer, and it just stops. In that state, it also doesn’t like to cancel papers. If you cancel it, it is unable to do so and remains brick-like until a hard reboot is done, not ideal with 30 minutes to class. In conclusion, spend some more money and purchase something far better than this hunk-o-junk.
Don’t buy if you have a Mac Rating:1 out of 5 stars I just spent a frustrating weekend trying to install this on my Mac. I had two people from the Geek Squad try and they couldn’t either. I wish I had seen the other posts about this issue with Macs before I bought it. I guess all the people who had no problems with this printer have PCs. I should’ve gone with my gut which told me to get a Canon.
Good basic printer Rating:3 out of 5 stars I wanted to let any one looking to buy this printer to be aware of when installing the CD there seems to be a problem with the Adobe Active X, we tried several times to install without success until I clicked on the task master and stopped the Adobe Active X from running. Even the technicians at HP did not suggest this as a solution.
The printer is a nice size as I don’t have a lot of space on my desk. The ink cartridge’s seem to be a better price then my last printer.
pretty good overall Rating:4 out of 5 stars I got this printer to go with my new Windows 7 PC which I bought the first day it was on the market. (forget exactly when that was, a month or two ago I guess).
For the low price, this seems like a great printer and I love having the scanner which I haven’t had before.
I have had one problem which has to do with the ink status indicators. The ink cartridges that came with the printer ran out pretty quickly and I replaced them with high capacity ones I got off the internet, non HP brand. The indicator on the printer for the color cartridge showed no dots, i.e. empty, even though it was printing fine. It is now showing “E” (for error) I guess on the left display window related to the ink status. The printer is still printing fine.
Since this problem isn’t affecting my ability to use the printer, I don’t consider it much of a liability. Would I have had the problem if I had bought HP replacement cartridges rather than off-brand ones? Maybe not, but there is a big price differential.
Ink Guzzler Rating:3 out of 5 stars I bought this printer because I needed one desperately after my HP Officejet 6100 series printer died. It had been a good printer. I considered having it repaired but thought it might be too expensive, so I gave it away. Now I regret that decision. The deskjet F4480, though relatively low in price, makes up for the low cost by sucking ink like a thirsty elephant sucks up water. With the 6100 I could better adjust the print quality both for normal printing and for copying. However, the F4480 does not have as many options. Futhermore, the printer has no feature to enlarge or reduce copy size. I am disappointed and have been looking for another printer since I set up the F4480. I want my HP Officeject 6100 back!
I’m Sold! Rating:4 out of 5 stars This happens to be my second HP Printer. The first one lasted almost 5 years! (And, with all of the scanning I do…) So, I thought, “I’ll buy HP again”.
My old printer was a 3-in-1, and this is one of the many successors to my old HP.
* It installed easily, and it works fast.
* The scanner is faster, and eliminated an unnecessary scanning step from the old HP.
* The printing is faster too (Be certain to have the paper catcher-thingy open, or you’ll be chasing the paper as it squirts out from the printer). I’m also surprised as to how good the “Fast Print” looks.
* There’s a little pop-up window (only visible while printing) telling you how much ink is in each cartridge.
So, why only 4 stars? HP, as a company, is a little intrusive; throwing up windows wanting all kinds of attention from you. Fortunately, most of those can be disabled (though I had to get Windows involved).
Disclaimer – I did not buy it through Amazon – but who cares? I’m reviewing the product, not Amazon.
Just what I needed Rating:5 out of 5 stars Works perfectly with my Linux print server. All the machines on my network, Linux and otherwise (Windows 7) work well with it. Even the OS X doorstop (Mac Mini) loves it.
Good product for the money Rating:4 out of 5 stars This is not a super printer, it’s not really wireless, but its solid and ink efficient. Prints and scans quickly, and had no problem setting it up, which has been a problem with my touchy computer of late. This is one of the better home printers I’ve had in a while.
That is just cheap Rating:3 out of 5 stars They do not include a usb 2.0 cable with this printer. So you have to go buy your own cable instead of being able to use it right out of the box. That is absolute crap. Every printer I have ever bought comes with a usb cable to connect to your computer right out of the box.
I Love My HP Rating:5 out of 5 stars I couldn’t believe how fast I it got delivered. My husband got it set up easily. It has all the functions I want. It’s quiet, efficient, and haven’t had a paper jam yet. The print quality is good, and color printing is really nice. Good job HP!
Very Good Printer Rating:5 out of 5 stars The hp4480 imo is a quality printerfrom installation to usage. printing quality is very good for home use, I wouldn’t recommend it for professional use but for printing stuff like home photos & documents, i am very pleased:). It did take awhile to actually install onto my computer but i don’t have the fastest computer in the world either, lol. I like this printer very much
So far so good! HP DeskJet F4480 Inkjet All-in-One Printer Rating:3 out of 5 stars Too early to “review”, as I just set it up! It’s small & doesn’t take up too much space. Great price from seller & it was brand new in the box! I think it will be fine. If I have problems I will write again…but for now A-OK! The seller shipped fast.
HP Desk printers are crap Rating:1 out of 5 stars I don’t have this model, but I’m on my 2nd HP desk printer and they’re crap. Buy ANYONE ELSE’S printer out there!
These printers suck and I’d avoid all of the HP Ink Jet printer lines. (We use HP Laser printers at work and they’re great.) But, these printers are pieces of crap.
The scanner stopped working when I got a new computer and I was never able to make the computer see the scanner again. NEVER. So, I got a Canon scanner which is infinitely better.
The print quality is great…when you can make it work. But, between the carriage jams and the paper jams, good luck. I waste so much time trying to coax this piece of junk to do what it’s supposed to do.
NEVER AGAIN. I’m going out and buying myself a new printer for Christmas and I don’t care what it costs cause it’s gotta be better than this horrible thing. And, I should have known better — it’s my second one.
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Rating:1 out of 5 stars After reading the reviews, we decided to get this the F4480 for our Mac OS X v10.4. We checked the box to make sure they would work together.
Three long frustrating hours later, we repeatedly get a message saying that this HP will only work with Mac OS X v10.6 or higher. So we called HP
support, went through their long, redundant, conversant system. After 20 minutes we finally got a person on the line. She sounded like she was computer
generated. I’m still not entirely sure it was not a voice responsive computer program. We had to repeat everything, our names, spelling of our names, computer
model number, serial number four before she could repeat it back to us. Then she said she would connect us to a MAC tech that would explain the interface to
us. Five minutes on hold then a ringing phone and a recording came on advising us that MAC tech support is Monday through Friday and gave us the hours.
Then we were disconnected.
I am livid. The product does not install, and yes we did follow the directions. The customer service is a time waster and frustrating. I’m taking this back and getting
Ink sucking monster, otherwise an okay printer Rating:2 out of 5 stars The printer itself is fine, but I only have about 20% of my black ink cartridge left and I’ve only printed ~30 pages, 20 of which were 600dpi grayscale. Admittedly that will suck up ink faster, but how can it suck up *that* much ink? There’s no way this would have ever made it to 200 regular pages on the included cartridge.
The other problem is that the ink is smudging like crazy on the regular low-rez pages, even 24 hours after printing. The paper I’m using worked just fine with my previous printer (a Canon Pixma), so I can’t imagine it’s the paper’s fault.
I’m hoping it’s just bad ink. I’m buying replacement cartridges and trying again before returning it.
HP DeskJet F4480 All-In-One Rating:2 out of 5 stars Pros: Small Footprint, Print quality fine. Does job I want it to.
Cons: One color cartridge instead of individual ones. Both color and black consumed quicker than expected. Ink costs about same as cost of new unit (typical on all ink jets, from my experiences). Software: Too comprehensive/cumbersome. Scanning menus not too user friendly. Several times Windows printer menu doesn’t sync with HP printer menu resulting in portrait/landscape errors and wasted paper/ink. Somewhat bias because my last two all-in-ones were Epson Stylus units, and I would rate them substantially better on all counts. Oh yeah…some prints easily smeared…something I don’t remember happening with Epson, unless prints got wet.

This happens to be my second HP Printer.
Just what I needed

Works perfectly with my Linux print server. All the machines on my network, Linux and otherwise (Windows 7) work well with it. Even the OS X doorstop (Mac Mini) loves it.
Good product for the money

This is not a super printer, it’s not really wireless, but its solid and ink efficient. Prints and scans quickly, and had no problem setting it up, which has been a problem with my touchy computer of late. This is one of the better home printers I’ve had in a while.
That is just cheap

They do not include a usb 2.0 cable with this printer. So you have to go buy your own cable instead of being able to use it right out of the box. That is absolute crap. Every printer I have ever bought comes with a usb cable to connect to your computer right out of the box.
I Love My HP

I couldn’t believe how fast I it got delivered. My husband got it set up easily. It has all the functions I want. It’s quiet, efficient, and haven’t had a paper jam yet. The print quality is good, and color printing is really nice. Good job HP!
Very Good Printer

The hp4480 imo is a quality printerfrom installation to usage. printing quality is very good for home use, I wouldn’t recommend it for professional use but for printing stuff like home photos & documents, i am very pleased:). It did take awhile to actually install onto my computer but i don’t have the fastest computer in the world either, lol. I like this printer very much

Too early to “review”, as I just set it up! It’s small & doesn’t take up too much space. Great price from seller & it was brand new in the box! I think it will be fine. If I have problems I will write again…but for now A-OK! The seller shipped fast.

HP Desk printers are crap

I don’t have this model, but I’m on my 2nd HP desk printer and they’re crap.

After reading the reviews, we decided to get this the F4480 for our Mac OS X v10.4.
I’m taking this back and getting
another Canon.
Ink sucking monster, otherwise an okay printer

The printer itself is fine, but I only have about 20% of my black ink cartridge left and I’ve only printed ~30 pages, 20 of which were 600dpi grayscale.
HP DeskJet F4480 All-In-One
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Pros: Small Footprint, Print quality fine.

I only have the printer for a couples of week, but I’m very happy with it. It is very easy to use and the printing is good. Glad to have read the reviewsHewlett-Packard (HP) Deskjet F4480 All-in-One Printer before I went to buy it.
